To actively promote international exchange and local internationalization, the Office of International Affairs at Ming Chi University of Technology hosted the 2025 MCUT Language and Culture Summer Camp, held in two sessions from July 7 to July 16 and from August 4 to August 12. The program attracted 59 overseas students from 13 countries, including Korea, Hungary, Poland, Indonesia, Thailand, the United States, Malaysia, Vietnam, Peru, the Philippines, Germany, Switzerland, and India. Over the course of ten days of classes and activities, participants not only experienced Taiwan’s culture and language learning in depth but also engaged in diverse exchanges with MCUT students, fostering lasting international friendships.

The program was designed with a broad scope covering technology, design, and culture. International students visited various departments and research centers on campus, including the Department of Safety, Health and Environmental Engineering, Organic Electronics Research Center, Research Center for Intelligent Medical Devices, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Visual Communication Design, Department of Business and Management, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Department of Industrial Design, Battery Research Center of Green Energy, and Center for Environmental Sustainability and Human Health. Through professional introductions and hands-on activities, students gained insights into Taiwan’s achievements in technological research, innovative design, and sustainable development.

Language and cultural classes allowed students to craft their Chinese names with pipe cleaners, explore the art of traditional Chinese opera facial painting, make sky lanterns, and paint paper fans. They also learned about Taiwan’s unique folk beliefs through activities introducing Ghost Month traditions and taboos.

Off-campus cultural experiences were equally diverse and enriching. Students visited an Atayal tribe, where they dressed in traditional attire, practiced archery, and made bamboo rice. They experienced retro costumes in Dadaocheng and admired cultural treasures at the National Palace Museum, deepening their understanding of Taiwan’s connections with world culture. These activities not only enhanced international students’ appreciation of Taiwanese society and culture but also fostered intercultural understanding and exchange.

MCUT students served as buddies, guiding international participants through local experiences. By interacting through language and culture, they developed skills in communication, teamwork, and cross-cultural learning. This practice embodied the university’s vision of promoting “local internationalization,” integrating global exchange naturally into daily life and study.

The 2025 MCUT Language and Culture Summer Camp was more than just a language and culture learning activity—it was a journey of cross-cultural co-learning and mutual inspiration. With its successful conclusion, heartfelt thanks go to all participating faculty and students for their support and dedication, which made this summer full of valuable achievements and unforgettable memories.
