The 2nd Hualien Jiawan Tribal Homecoming Social Service and Cultural Learning Camp, 2024

update date : 2025-01-08

The 2nd Hualien Jiawan Tribal Social Service and Cultural Learning Camp of 2024 took place from November 15 to 18. The program included three main components: disaster relief and environmental cleanup, a chemistry knowledge workshop, and an in-depth exploration of Truku culture. Students actively engaged in services across the Jiawan, Xiulin, and Jiamin villages, assisting with post-disaster cleaning, disinfection, distributing supplies, and caring for elderly residents living alone. They also conducted chemistry workshops, where participants learned to make eco-friendly cleaning products and hand creams, promoting environmental sustainability and practical application of knowledge.

Despite disruptions caused by typhoons that required adjustments to the itinerary, students persevered with enthusiasm and overcame challenges. The cultural exchange segment included participation in traditional Truku rituals and a bonfire evening, where music and dance fostered cross-cultural interactions and deeper understanding of Indigenous culture. The program successfully integrated social service with academic expertise, leaving participants with meaningful reflections and personal growth.
