To serve society and foster a closer connection between schools and communities, Dun-lin Academy recently held a "Tour Guide Volunteer Training Program." This program aimed to develop students' interpretative skills, enhance their understanding of Taishan's local culture and history, and deepen their appreciation of the region through field visits and professional guidance. The initiative also sought to promote mutual growth between the school and the community.
The event featured a special guest, Chairperson Li Jiang-He of Ming Zhi Academy, who personally guided students through visits to Taishan's cultural landmarks, including Ming Zhi Academy and Ding Tai Shan Temple. Chairperson Li provided detailed and accessible explanations, helping students familiarize themselves with the tour guide process and gain a deeper understanding of Taishan’s historical context. Prior to the event, students completed two cultural and historical courses to establish a theoretical foundation. By combining "reading thousands of books" with "traveling thousands of miles," they acquired invaluable knowledge not found in textbooks.
On the final day of the program, the students participated as volunteers in the sacrificial ceremony at Ding Tai Shan Temple, gaining hands-on experience in traditional folk cultural activities. Through this practical engagement, the students not only boosted their confidence and communication skills but also strengthened their sense of identity with Taishan's local culture. They also gained practical experience to assist with future community events. Many participants expressed that the integration of classroom theory with chairperson Li's on-site guidance provided them with a more comprehensive understanding of Taishan's cultural and historical heritage, while also fostering a deeper emotional connection to their community.
