Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) and Formosa Smart Energy Tech Corp. showcased their industry-academia collaboration technologies at the 2024 Taiwan International Smart Energy Week (October 4–6, 2024), demonstrating the university’s outstanding achievements in green energy and innovative technologies. These two technological innovations come from MCUT’s Battery Research Center of Green Energy and Department of Industrial Design, aimed at advancing smart energy applications and promoting environmental sustainability.
During the event, the Battery Research Center of Green Energy, led by Director Chun-Chen Yang, presented the latest research results from its industry-academia collaboration with Formosa Smart Energy Tech Corp. on All-solid-state lithium metal battery. The all-solid-state lithium battery not only features higher energy density and enhanced safety but also significantly improves battery lifespan and performance, making it a key technology with far-reaching implications for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.
In addition, the Department of Industrial Design’s Professor Ding-Yan Hsu, in collaboration with Formosa Smart Energy Tech Corp., showcased an innovative microalgae-based carbon-reducing landscape design. This design utilizes the carbon-absorbing and oxygen-releasing properties of microalgae to effectively reduce carbon emissions in urban environments, while creatively enhancing the greenery of cityscapes.
The collaboration between Ming Chi University of Technology and Formosa Smart Energy Tech Corp. in these two technological showcases highlights the critical role of industry-academia partnerships in the development of green technologies. By combining academic innovation with industry application, these collaborations not only accelerate the practical implementation of new technologies but also provide strong support for Taiwan’s competitiveness in the global smart energy and environmental technology sectors.
