Ming Chi University of Science and Technology jointly organized the 2024 Design Entrepreneurship Workshop with ITECH, Germany.

A total of 13 students from the College of Management and Design, Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) were led by teacher Kelly Chen from September 9 to September 20 this year (2024). They were invited to the Berufliche Schule ITECH Elbinsel Wilhelmsburg (ITECH), a partner professional school in Hamburg, Germany, to participate in the 2024 International Design Entrepreneurship Workshop. This International Design Entrepreneurship Workshop is hosted by ITECH of Germany, co-organized by MCUT, and co-organized by RASEKO of Finland and IES La Fuensanta of Spain.

The workshop aims to guide students in integrating design thinking and entrepreneurship into innovative business models. The main contents of the activities include entrepreneurship, design thinking, technology application, etc.  The participants from four schools, including 12 teachers and 66 students, were randomly divided into ten teams for two weeks of teamwork. They were required to complete executable solutions through creative design and prototype implementation.

The challenges faced by students this year are (1) Soundscape, (2) Biome–Helmholtz, and (3) Deutsches Hafenmuseum, which focuses on the innovative design of products, services and processes, prototyping, and conducting marketplace for final presentations. In addition to providing integrated learning, it can enhance cross-disciplinary learning, cultural learning, and exchange opportunities. This workshop adheres to the principle of entertaining and educating. In addition to the fast pace and intensive training, students from MCUT,  Finland, and Spain are arranged to visit the traditional German farm Freilichtmuseum am Kiekeberg to experience hand-made cream and see the mini model world hidden in Speicherstadt (Miniatur Wunderland), a cultural bicycle tour in Berlin and a visit to the Reichstag, exploring and learning German culture through student team activities, and experiencing the daily life experience of living in Hamburg city. The 12 teachers participating in this international workshop assisted in the planning and execution of the entire workshop and assisted and guided the student teams in completing the competition and presenting the results.

The Department of Business and Management, College of Management and Design, MCUT, emphasizes cross-disciplinary integration and learning and provides practical courses, including design thinking, innovation, entrepreneurship, etc., striving to enhance students' international perspective and provide more cross-cultural learning opportunities. MCUT has been actively cultivating high-quality overseas universities to integrate various resources and provide outstanding students with opportunities to study in partner universities with international cooperation. In recent years, in addition to providing internship opportunities for overseas companies, MCUT has continued to recruit international students to study at the College of Management and Design, MCUT, and through overseas exchanges, exchange students, dual degrees, and other systems to improve students' professional abilities and enhance the value of their learning resume.

Professor Jin-Kwan Lin, Dean of the College of Management and Design, MCUT, expressed that the College of Management and Design will continue to hold international workshops. In addition to actively expanding exchange opportunities with high-quality overseas schools, it will continue to strengthen the breadth and depth of cultural learning towards creating higher education. MCUT aims to cultivate domestic elites and international talents and hopes that participating in international workshops can increase Taiwan's visibility in higher education. In the future, it will also develop students' global mobilities and employability through overseas innovation and entrepreneurship workshops and internships to smoothly integrate with enterprises.
