Safeguarding Health and Breaking Free from Addiction: Ming Chi University of Technology Launches 2026 Tobacco Prevention Series
Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) has demonstrated outstanding performance in university rankings and research in recent years. Beyond academic excellence, the university is deeply committed to the holistic health of its faculty and students, striving to create a comprehensive healthy campus environment. To address the threats posed by emerging tobacco products, the Health Services Section has organized a series of health promotion activities for April 2026, featuring "one lecture and three cessation workshops" led by the professional medical team from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital,,.
A highlight of the series was the "Prevention of Emerging Tobacco Products Lecture" held on April 21 at the 1st Floor Tiered Classroom in the Gymnasium. The university invited the family medicine medical team from Far Eastern Memorial Hospital to provide an in-depth analysis of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. The lecture went beyond comparing the harms of traditional and electronic cigarettes; it delved into the high correlation between tobacco use and cancer from a medical perspective. Furthermore, the medical team specifically revealed the hidden toxic substances often found in e-liquids, educating participants to see through the sophisticated packaging of emerging products and acquire essential prevention knowledge.
Following the educational foundation of the lecture, the university held the "Breaking Free from Addiction" Cessation Class from April 28 to May 12, helping participants systematically overcome nicotine addiction through diverse weekly themes:
- Deep Understanding: The first week focused on "Understanding Tobacco Harms and Addiction," exploring how addiction impacts long-term physical health and nutritional intake.
- Learning Through Play: The second phase innovatively introduced "Smoking Cessation Board Games." Through interactive games, participants learned health facts and practical skills for refusing tobacco and avoiding the hazards of second-hand and third-hand smoke in a relaxed atmosphere.
- Physical Strengthening: The final week featured "Cessation Aerobic Exercise," designed to enhance self-control and focus through physical training. Exercise not only strengthens cardiopulmonary function and boosts metabolic rates but also helps the body flush out chemical substances, reinforcing the will to quit from a physiological level.
Throughout the activities, the university provided professional consultation spaces within the Gymnasium and prepared snacks or dinners for each session to support participants on their journey toward recovery, fostering a positive peer culture of mutual support.
Guided by the motto "Diligence, Perseverance, Frugality, and Trustworthiness," MCUT recognizes that a strong physique and self-discipline are the cornerstones for success on the international stage. Through the integration of professional medical resources and diverse curriculum planning, the university is turning tobacco prevention into a spontaneous action by faculty and students, ensuring every member of the MCUT community can become the healthy professional needed for future industries.
