MCUT 2025 Taiwan Cultural Discovery Tour— An Immersive Journey into Craftsmanship, Heritage, and Local Living

update date : 2025-11-25

To foster campus internationalization and meaningful cultural exchange, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) at Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) organized the 2025 Taiwan Culture Shock Adventurer activity on October 4. The one-day trip invited both local and international students to explore the birthplace of Taiwan’s ceramic craftsmanship in Yingge and the historic charm of Sanxia through hands-on workshops and immersive local experiences. Students from Indonesia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and other countries joined the event.

The first stop brought students to the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum, where they received an all-English guided tour introducing Taiwan’s ceramic history, production techniques, and cultural significance. During the pottery DIY workshop, students shaped their own ceramic art pieces—kneading, molding, and crafting with great enthusiasm. The studio was filled with creativity, laughter, and a strong sense of achievement.

In the afternoon, the group continued to Sanxia Old Street for a uniquely local experience: the Golden Sanxia Croissant DIY workshop. From preparing dough to shaping and baking, students learned about Taiwan’s artisanal baking culture and the craftsmanship spirit behind one of Sanxia’s most iconic pastries. A cultural walking tour further deepened their understanding of the area’s historical background and traditional architecture.

A student from India shared, “It was my first time making bread and creating pottery. I didn’t just learn about Taiwanese culture. I made new friends from different countries. It was meaningful and unforgettable.” A local student added that participating alongside international students improved their English communication and offered a fresh perspective on Taiwan’s culture.

MCUT remains committed to building a globally engaged and culturally inclusive campus. Through local cultural experiences, exchange activities, and an international learning environment, the university continues to bridge communities and foster global citizenship. The 2025 Taiwan Cultural Discovery Tour not only created lasting memories but also highlighted the vibrant international atmosphere that defines the MCUT experience
