The MCUT Parent-Teacher Conference for New Students, 2021

update date : 2021-11-25

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, The parent-teacher conference for new students of MCUT was held online to avoid cluster infection. The general presentation of school affairs was cancelled accordingly. The Section of Student Counseling was responsible for contacting all the department offices, setting up the MS Teams breakout rooms and posting the QR codes of the links to each department breakout room on the official website of the university as well as on the invitations to the parents. The invitations of this conference were then mailed along with the tuition notices. While signing up for the conference, parents were able to decide if they needed the hard copies of handbooks. If so, the handbooks would be mailed by the Section of Student Counseling as the reference for parents to know more about the university concepts.

The online parent-teacher conference was held on September 4th, with 902 faculty members and parents in total participating the event. The chair and class mentors of each department hosted the discussion in the relative breakout room while the staff of the Section of Student Counseling and the department office provided administrative support in response to the questions regarding the software or university. After the parents entered the breakout room of each department, they would listen to the introduction about the university and department by the chair, then interact with the class mentors who shared ideas concerning the curriculum and class management and finally ask related questions.

Parents and class mentors were invited to fill a satisfaction survey after the virtual parent-teacher conference this year. In general, parents thought this conference was helpful for them to know about the ways with which the university has been run. Moreover, the school side also acquired an opportunity to listen to the doubts and thoughts from the parents. Through the interaction held online, both sides could communicate on concepts and goals of education; the understanding and collaboration between the two sides were also deepened in order to achieve a better educational effect. Some parents suggested the instructions regarding holding the event online could have been more clear so as to avoid the problems such as login failures or entering the wrong breakout rooms.
