Ming Chi University of Technology × Wanshing Elementary School Cross-School Collaborative Learning Exploring Local Culture Together
To deepen students' understanding of local culture and promote cross-school learning exchanges, the Bachelor's Program in Digital Marketing Design at Ming Chi University of Technology collaborated with Wanshing Elementary School in Taipei to organize a cross-school learning activity. Through thoughtfully designed lessons and interactive learning, students were guided to explore the natural environment and cultural characteristics of the Maokong area, allowing local culture to become an important part of the learning experience.
During the activity, Ming Chi university students served as learning partners, guiding Wanshing Elementary School students through discussions, creative activities, and sharing sessions. From different perspectives, the students explored the natural environment and cultural stories of Maokong. Through guidance and interaction, the children gradually discovered that their familiar surroundings actually contain many local stories worth sharing and documenting.
Throughout the activity, students expressed their observations and imagination about their hometown through creative works and presentations, while also developing communication skills and teamwork through interactive learning. One elementary school student shared, "This activity helped me understand Maokong better. I also learned about many animals and about Wenshan Baozhong tea and Tieguanyin tea. I hope there will be more activities like this in the future." Through the lessons and interactions, students not only gained knowledge about local culture but also developed greater curiosity and interest in their living environment.
The university students who led the activities also shared their reflections. The most memorable moment was witnessing the transformation of the children during the learning process. At the beginning, the children described their hometown simply as "a place with many mountains." However, through guidance and conversation, they gradually began to think more deeply and realized that their hometown contains many stories worth telling.
During the creative and sharing sessions, the university students also discovered that the children were not lacking imagination; rather, they simply needed encouragement and opportunities to express their ideas. When the children stood up to present their works and explain their choices of colors and elements, their voices carried a new sense of confidence and pride. The university students also expressed that they were very glad to have the opportunity to bring projects that had previously existed only in proposals and design drafts into a real classroom setting.
Through this cross-school collaborative learning activity, students from Wanshing Elementary School gained a deeper understanding of the natural and cultural characteristics of their hometown, while Ming Chi University students accumulated valuable experience in teaching practice and community engagement. The activity demonstrated the educational impact of collaboration between higher education and elementary education, and opened up further possibilities for future cross-school learning initiatives and local cultural education.
