Energizing Drums, Empowering Youth: A Celebration of Multicultural Exchange
To advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) continues to promote multicultural exchange, quality education, and student well-being. Under the theme “Beating Drums, Cheering Youth,” the university formed a drum-cheer squad consisting of faculty and students from various departments and nationalities. The team performed at the Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) Sports Day, embodying SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being).
A total of 46 faculty members and students voluntarily joined the activity. MCUT organized three structured training sessions covering drum basics, rhythm practice, cheer design, and formation choreography. Many participants were new to drum performance, yet through focused training they successfully mastered the rhythms and created their own cheer slogans—showcasing creativity, collaboration, and the SDG 4 principle of enhanced learning opportunities.
On the day of the sports event, the drum-cheer squad energized the audience with synchronized rhythms, powerful drumbeats, and enthusiastic cheering. Their performance boosted the athletes’ morale and exemplified SDG 3’s emphasis on physical and mental well-being. The involvement of members from diverse cultural backgrounds also highlighted MCUT’s commitment to building an inclusive campus aligned with SDG 10.
This drum-cheer initiative not only promoted traditional drum culture but also strengthened teamwork and intercultural interaction on campus, contributing to the university’s sustainability efforts. Moving forward, the university will continue to integrate the SDGs into educational, cultural, and wellness activities, ensuring that sustainability values continue to take root across the campus community.
