MCUT Student Union Joins National Student Self-Governance Summer Training “Ignite” – Creativity and Autonomy Take Flight
From August 1 to 3, the 27th Student Union of Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) participated in the 14th National Student Self-Governance Summer Leadership Training—“Ignite”, held at the Legislative Yuan’s Democracy Park in Wufeng, Taichung. The event, organized by the Taiwan Northern University Student Union Association and guided by the Ministry of Education’s Youth Development Administration, brought together more than 80 student leaders from across the country. Through lectures, discussions, and hands-on simulations, participants deepened their understanding of student self-governance while building cross-campus networks.
This year’s program focused on the theme “Challenges in Student Union Development.” Core courses included “Students Governing Students,” “Speaking with Impact: Parliamentary Rules and Expression,” and “Supporting the Roof of Autonomy: Challenges and Rebuilding Strategies.” Elective sessions such as “Action Designers,” “Blueprint for Autonomy,” and “The Power of Money” further broadened the learning experience. In addition, a “World Café” discussion and a simulated parliament gave students the opportunity to practice leadership and teamwork in real-world scenarios.
According to participants, the most valuable takeaway was the encouragement to “dare to break the mold.” They realized that organizing activities should not be confined to traditional formats but should embrace creativity to engage students. Many also highlighted the importance of information sharing within teams. One student noted that stepping up to answer questions during the simulated parliament helped them demonstrate both confidence and professionalism. Moreover, cross-campus exchanges provided new insights into the unique cultures and vitality of other student unions.
The MCUT Student Union hopes that by taking part in this training, it can strengthen its organizational capacity and innovative thinking, laying a solid foundation for advancing future campus and external initiatives. Moving forward, the union aims to continue working hand in hand with student organizations nationwide to promote youth civic engagement and student self-governance.
