update date : 2023-09-21

Taiwan Institue for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), a non-profit organization, recently held the "2023 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards" ceremony. Ming Chi University (MCUT) received the Silver and Bronze awards for their respective action plans, "Sustainable Economic Development in Small Steps" and "Globalized Education for Community Action." President Liu, Thu-Hua represented MCUT in accepting the awards, once again recognizing MCUT’s efforts in social responsibility and sustainable development.

MCUT’s College of Management and Design integrates cross-disciplinary teams and industrial service centers in four main directions: enhancing corporate competitiveness, supporting ESG action plans, promoting fair and transparent economic transactions, and creating diverse and beneficial partnerships. The College successfully connected with 25 SDGs-related technologies or research guidance, utilizing local professional resources to assist traditional businesses in smart transformation, product value enhancement, and upholding MCUT’s social responsibility. The College aims to co-create a prosperous economic model, embracing a sustainable future. The action plan, "Sustainable Economic Development in Small Steps," received the Silver Award in the "SDG9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure" category.

The General Education Center's Office for Social Responsibility Promotion constructed the "Globalized Education for Community Action," focusing on SDG4 (Quality Education) and SDG10 (Reduced Inequality) to transform communities into spaces for knowledge and cultural exchange. Collaborating with public libraries, cultural museums, and local schools, the Center guides teachers, students, and new immigrants in promoting multicultural courses, making cultural exchange a daily occurrence, and fostering respect and inclusivity among children from different backgrounds. Simultaneously, the Center cooperates with the New Taipei City government's Labor Affairs Department to build support communities for migrant workers and new immigrants. Through activities such as Chinese language teaching, skill learning, sports, and arts, mutual learning among local disadvantaged groups are promoted, working towards community integration. The Center’s action plan earned recognition from the judging panel, securing the Bronze Award in the "SDG4 Quality Education" category.

MCUT stated that in recent years, sustainability issues such as SDGs and ESG have become global concerns shared by all citizens. Universities worldwide have embarked on more collaborations to address SDGs. MCUT is committed to the Ministry of Education's third-phase university social responsibility plan, dedicating itself to community and environmental issues. MCUT actively promotes cooperation with schools at all levels to advance relevant educational initiatives. MCUT hopes to nurture a new generation of students with unique perspectives and outstanding capabilities to address urgent development challenges. Through educational initiatives, universities aim to practice sustainable development principles, bringing greater well-being to society and local communities.
