Library Integrates AI Research Tools into Instruction to Strengthen Graduate Students' Literature Search Skills
The Library continues to promote its Library Resource Utilization Education program to help students effectively use academic resources and strengthen their research skills. This session was arranged with the support of the course instructor and was designed primarily for international graduate students. The class was conducted in English by library staff, with library-prepared handouts provided to assist students in becoming familiar with campus research resources and academic information services.
The course covered an introduction to library services, methods for locating academic resources, and practical demonstrations of commonly used research tools, including ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and the National Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations in Taiwan (NDLTD). The session also featured a demonstration of Web of Science Research Assistant, allowing students to experience how conversational, natural-language interaction can be used to explore research topics and search for relevant literature. Through this demonstration, students gained insight into how AI-powered research tools can support literature discovery, research planning, and overall research efficiency.
In addition, the course addressed common needs of graduate students by discussing the appropriate use of AI tools in academic writing and emphasizing the importance of proper citation, information verification, and academic integrity. Through hands-on practice and real-world examples, students became more familiar with the effective use of research resources, laying a solid foundation for future thesis writing and research projects. The Library noted that these instructional sessions remain available to departments and classes by request and can be delivered in either Chinese or English to support teaching, learning, and research across the university.
