Ming Chi University of Technology Holds the "Does Art – Zhongshan Store, Taipei Tufting Workshop" Experience Activity to Promote Green University Initiatives and Sustainable Education
During the second semester of the 2025 academic year (Academic Year 114 in Taiwan), Ming Chi University of Technology organized the Green University Seminar: "Does Art – Zhongshan Store, Taipei Tufting Workshop" Experience Activity as part of its commitment to promoting sustainable development. In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the event centered on the theme of Sustainability Education, inviting faculty members and students to participate in an immersive hands-on experience. Through artistic creation and craft-making, participants were encouraged to explore the principles of sustainable development in everyday life while fostering greater awareness of resource conservation, responsible consumption, and aesthetic appreciation.
This activity incorporated the educational philosophy of Does Art – Zhongshan Store, which emphasizes handcrafted art and aesthetic education. Through experiential learning, creative design, and practical workshops, the event demonstrated the core values of the SDGs. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of tufting, including its techniques, equipment operation, and the complete process of creating handmade rugs. From design and material selection to the finished product, participants gained a deeper understanding of the craftsmanship behind each piece, reinforcing the importance of valuing handmade products, conserving resources, reducing waste, and extending the lifespan of everyday items.
Furthermore, by integrating artistic creation with everyday aesthetics, the workshop encouraged participants to express their creativity while cultivating patience, concentration, and a sense of accomplishment throughout the creative process. By supporting a local cultural and creative enterprise, the activity also contributed to the development of Taiwan's creative industries and strengthened collaboration between the university and local businesses, highlighting the diverse value of integrating arts education with sustainable development.
Overall, the "Does Art – Zhongshan Store, Taipei Tufting Workshop" Experience Activity successfully combined art education, aesthetic practice, and sustainable living, demonstrating how the Sustainable Development Goals can be incorporated into daily life. Through hands-on creative experiences, participants developed stronger awareness of responsible consumption and resource conservation, directly supporting SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
