MCUT’s 2026 Sustainability Week Kicks Off: Nine Highlights Connecting Campus Ecology, SDGs Achievements, and Sustainability Action

update date : 2026-05-18

Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) organized its “2026 Sustainability Week Series” from April 20 to April 25, featuring nine themed activities, with the “Environmental Sustainability Book Exhibition” extended through May 22. The activities covered a wide range of topics, including campus ecology analysis, SDGs achievements exhibition, sustainability expert lecture, low-carbon living, circular economy, ecological tours, university history education, farm experience, and wetland restoration action. Faculty members, students, staff, and community partners were invited to participate and put the concept of sustainable development into practice through campus life and local field-based experiences.

This year’s Sustainability Week centered on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through lectures, exhibitions, guided tours, hands-on experiences, and environmental actions, the event showcased MCUT’s achievements in environmental education, campus governance, social responsibility, and biodiversity conservation. The first activity, “Analysis of the Current Ecological Status of MCUT Campus,” was held on April 20, guiding faculty members and students to understand the ecological features and biodiversity of the campus, while further exploring the connection between campus ecological resources and environmental education.

On April 21, MCUT held the “Sustainability Week SDG Poster Exhibition and Opening Ceremony.” The SDGs achievement poster exhibition presented the concrete outcomes of sustainability initiatives implemented by various units across the university. Through visual displays, faculty members and students gained a deeper understanding of MCUT’s actions in teaching and research, administrative management, social practice, and environmental sustainability. On the same afternoon, the Managing Editor of CSR@CommonWealth was invited to deliver an SDGs expert lecture titled “Perspectives and Trends in Sustainable Development,” sharing insights on current sustainability trends from the perspectives of media observation, social development, and corporate sustainability.

In response to Earth Day, the “Green Point Collection, Net-Zero Promotion, Circular Economy Lecture, and DIY Hands-on Activity” was held on April 22. The activity combined low-carbon living, resource circulation, and practical experience to encourage participants to integrate net-zero concepts into daily life. On the morning of April 23, MCUT organized the “Ecological Ditch Tour and Eco-Bottle Making Activity.” Through a guided tour of the campus ecological ditch and an eco-bottle DIY experience, participants learned about aquatic ecosystems, habitat creation, and biodiversity conservation through hands-on practice. In the afternoon, the “MCUT History Room Tour” was held on the eighth floor of the library, guiding faculty members, students, and staff to learn about the founding spirit, development history, and educational philosophy of MCUT, while carrying forward the university’s values of diligence, simplicity, and sustainable management.

On April 24, Sustainability Week extended to Yangmei Organic Farm with the “Yangmei Farm Handmade Trail Tour and Organic Farm Experience.” Through a handmade trail tour, field observation, and environmental experience, participants gained first-hand insight into the connections among land, ecology, and sustainable agriculture. On April 25, MCUT organized the “2026 Seeing the Tamsui River: Luzhou Wetland” restoration action, leading participants to the Luzhou Wetland to learn about wetland ecology, river environments, and habitat restoration, thereby extending campus sustainability actions to local environmental stewardship.

In addition to the themed activities, the library held the “Environmental Sustainability Book Exhibition” from April 20 to May 22 in the themed exhibition area on the fourth floor. A total of 61 books on environmental sustainability were selected, covering topics such as climate change, ecological conservation, environmental education, circular economy, and sustainable living. The exhibition encouraged faculty members, students, and staff to deepen their understanding of environmental issues through reading.

Sustainable development must be implemented in campus life, curriculum-based learning, and social practice. Upholding its educational spirit of “diligence and simplicity, pursuit of excellence, sustainable management, and dedication to society,” MCUT has continued to promote a low-carbon campus, environmental education, ecological conservation, sustainability report preparation, and SDGs initiatives. Through the 2026 Sustainability Week Series, the university hopes to bring together the collective momentum of sustainability actions across campus, enabling faculty members and students to understand sustainability through participation and practice it through experience, while further strengthening the role of the campus as a field for sustainability education and social responsibility.
