Ming Chi University of Technology held the “Intellectual Property Rights Promotion Activity and Education and Training (1): Teaching Without Stepping on Landmines: Discussing Teaching Material Preparation and Copyright” on April 10, Year 115. This activity was conducted via a Teams online meeting, with a total of 296 faculty and staff members participating, demonstrating the University’s emphasis on the promotion of intellectual property rights education and teaching-related copyright issues.

With digital teaching materials and online resources being widely used in teaching settings, how to correctly cite images, videos, articles, and various types of teaching materials has become an important issue that teachers, faculty, and staff cannot ignore in their daily work. For this lecture, Attorney Mao-Lin Yeh was specially invited to serve as the speaker. Starting from the basic concepts of copyright, and combined with practical teaching scenarios, he explained common copyright risks in teaching material production, classroom presentations, citation of digital resources, and use of online materials.

During the course, Attorney Yeh used practical case analyses to guide participants in understanding key points such as the scope of authorization, fair use, and copyright protection. This helped faculty and staff establish correct legal concepts and risk awareness during the process of teaching material preparation and teaching application, so as to avoid disputes arising from improper use of others’ works.

This activity proceeded smoothly, with active online participation. Participants gave positive feedback on the practicality of the course content and the arrangement that closely aligned with teaching settings. Through this education and training, not only was faculty and staff members’ understanding of intellectual property rights and copyright issues enhanced, but it also helped implement the concepts of respecting copyright and legally using teaching materials in daily teaching and administrative operations.

In the future, Ming Chi University of Technology will continue to promote education and training related to intellectual property rights, deepen the attention of all faculty and staff members across the University to intellectual property rights protection, and jointly create a campus environment that respects creation, uses materials legally, and supports safe and secure teaching.
