Stay Ahead of Emerging AI Trends! Ming Chi University of Technology Promotes Academic Ethics Education, with Dr. Y. Henry Sun Analyzing Ethical Boundaries in AI-Assisted Academic Writing

update date : 2026-05-08

Ming Chi University of Technology held the “Academic Ethics Lecture for the Second Semester of the 2024 Academic Year” on March 10, 2026, at the Ming Chi Auditorium in the General Building. The event featured Dr. Y. Henry Sun, former Executive Director of the Taiwan Association for Academic Ethics Education, as the keynote speaker. The lecture, titled “Using AI to Assist in Writing Research Proposals and Academic Papers,” aimed to guide faculty and staff in properly utilizing AI tools and enhancing their awareness of academic ethics amid the rapid development of AI technologies. Nearly 80 faculty and staff members attended the event.

During the lecture, Dr. Sun emphasized the core principle of “human-led, tool-assisted,” highlighting that AI should serve as a partner in thinking rather than a substitute for human effort. AI can be used to assist with literature review, clarify research structure, and improve expression; however, it should never be used to generate entire pieces of work through a single command. AI cannot be listed as an author, and human researchers must take full responsibility for the final research outcomes.

Regarding academic ethics, Dr. Sun specifically cautioned against risks associated with AI, including plagiarism, fabrication, and “hallucinations.” He stressed that when AI tools are used to assist in writing, such usage should be transparently disclosed in the methodology or acknowledgments section.

Ming Chi University of Technology has long been committed to supporting faculty development, alleviating concerns and learning burdens related to emerging technologies. The university will continue to organize academic ethics lectures to enhance shared competencies among faculty members and uphold academic integrity.
