HUST, KAIST, and Center for Reliability Engineering Conduct Academic Exchange and Sign MOU

update date : 2026-04-17

After years of collaborative research and academic exchange, the Center for Reliability Engineering (CRE-MCUT) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at our university have respectively signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) for academic cooperation with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology, The University of Danang (UD-DUT), and the School of Mechanical Engineering at Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Vietnam.

HUST and UD-DUT rank among the top three polytechnic universities in Vietnam, with outstanding student quality. At a time when Vietnam’s economy is rapidly taking off and industries across all sectors are experiencing significant growth, many young students aspire to pursue further studies abroad, acquire advanced technologies, and eventually return to their home country to contribute their expertise. Under these favorable circumstances, the Center for Reliability Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at our university began recruiting high-quality students from UD-DUT to pursue master’s degrees as early as ten years ago. These students have consistently demonstrated excellent performance; among them, Tohm Nguyen received the HIWIN Technologies Master’s Thesis Award (under the supervision of Professor Wen-Bin Hsieh).

A decade later, our efforts have expanded from central Vietnam’s Da Nang region to Hanoi in northern Vietnam. In addition to establishing close collaboration with Professor Trong Do Nguyen of the Intelligent Technical Diagnostics group (ITD-HUST) at HUST, Professor Jing-Wei Liang, Director of the Center for Reliability Engineering, has worked to build a trilateral partnership among the Center for Noise and Vibration Control PLUS (NOVIC+) at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the CRE-MCUT, and ITD-HUST.

To further strengthen this strategic alliance among KAIST, HUST, and MCUT in the area of “vibration signal-based intelligent diagnostics and prognostics technologies,” Professor Jing-Wei Liang, Director of CRE-MCUT, and Professor Yong-Hwa Park, Director of NOVIC+ at KAIST, jointly visited HUST on March 27, 2026. During the visit, they engaged in in-depth discussions with senior administrators, including the university president, vice presidents, and the dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, regarding future directions for trilateral collaboration. CRE-MCUT also took the lead in signing an MOU with ITD-HUST, and all three parties agreed to reconvene at the KAIST campus in July 2026 to further discuss concrete collaboration initiatives.

Below are snapshots from Professor Jing-Wei Liang’s visits to universities of science and technology in Da Nang and Hanoi, as well as scenes from the signing of the cooperation agreements.
