Award Ceremony for the 2025 Painted Taishan-Wugu Sketching Competition and Mingzhi Academy Calligraphy Competition
Taishan is a region rich in culture and humanities, where local traditions have been preserved and promoted through the sustained efforts of the community over the years. This year, Ming Chi University of Technology collaborated with Nanya Technology Corporation, Mingzhi Academy, the New Taipei City Calligraphy Association, and the Taishan Arts and Culture Association to jointly organize the “5th Mingzhi Academy Calligraphy Competition for Junior High and Elementary Students” and the “3rd Painted Taishan-Wugu Sketching Competition.” The events were widely open to the public, attracting nearly 400 calligraphy and sketching enthusiasts, showcasing both strong artistic passion and local pride.
The award ceremony was held on August 2 at Ming Chi University of Technology, with distinguished guests including Taishan District Chief Lin Junhong, Councilor Sung Ming-tsung, Director Liu Jin-feng from Legislator Hung Meng-kai’s office, Chairman Li Qiuyi of Ding Taishan Temple, Chairman Li Jianghe of Mingzhi Academy, President Chen Tianjin and Vice President Wang Zicai of the New Taipei City Calligraphy Association, as well as President Lin Kunshan, Chairwoman Wu Peihong, and Chairperson Lin Baoyu of the Taishan Arts and Culture Association. Their presence highlighted the community’s strong support and recognition of arts education.
The winning works were simultaneously exhibited at the Mingzhi Art Gallery, showcasing the efforts and talents of children and creators from all walks of life. This year, 12 of the sketching entries were enhanced with augmented reality (AR) technology by students from the Digital Marketing Design program at Ming Chi University of Technology, bringing the two-dimensional artworks to life. Visitors could simply scan with their smartphones to see the images animated, adding a fresh technological perspective to traditional art and delighting attendees.
This event was not only a celebration of artistic achievement but also a vibrant convergence of Taishan’s local culture and modern creativity. It is hoped that through continued arts education, local identity will be strengthened and the brilliance of culture further illuminated.
