MCUT partners with New Taipei city Education Department to organize a Vietnamese themed summer camp

update date : 2025-07-24

Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT), in collaboration with the New Taipei City Government’s Department of Education, hosted one of the most culturally unique summer camps of the year — Vietnam Le Le Island. The three-day camp was co-organized by the “Second Generation and ASEAN Youth Association,” composed of young people from Southeast Asian descents, and was specially designed for students from Grade 1 to Grade 6 to provide an unforgettable and enriching summer experience.

According to national statistics, Taiwan's new immigrant population continues to grow steadily, with individuals of Vietnamese descent making up the largest portion of the population. Vietnamese cuisine and culture have become increasingly visible in Taiwan’s urban landscape. In this diverse social context, the camp aimed to give children the opportunity to explore the Vietnamese language and culture, enhance their knowledge, build new friendships across schools, develop social skills, and discover personal interests and talents.

Professor Pu, Director of the General Education Center at MCUT and head of the university’s USR (University Social Responsibility) program, emphasized that New Taipei City has the highest proportion of new immigrants among Taiwan’s six major municipalities. He noted that MCUT has long focused on new immigrant issues and has even established a dedicated service station for new immigrant families on campus — a rare initiative among Taiwanese universities. “Beyond supporting new immigrant families, we hope to offer second-generation youth a platform to share their voices and talents,” said Professor Pu.

Mr. Lu Po-An, Acting Director of the New Immigrant International Education Section at the New Taipei City Department of Education, expressed his appreciation for MCUT’s efforts. “We are truly grateful to MCUT for providing such an excellent venue and well-designed program. Not only did we see children enjoying the joy of learning a new language, but we were also deeply moved to witness the enthusiastic participation of their families,” he said.

“USR Expansion Project for Cooperation with Northern Taiwan Themed Cultural Centers” one of MCUT’s USR program, focuses on four key social themes: cultural sustainability, environmental awareness, immigrant support, and migrant worker engagement. Through hands-on community-based courses and activities, the university is committed to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Sustainable Cities and Communities, Reduced Inequalities, and Quality Education.

Looking ahead, MCUT plans to continue promoting Southeast Asian culture and supporting the growth and development of new immigrant communities and their children. The university also strives to provide Taiwanese students with deeper and broader global learning opportunities through diverse, inclusive, and impactful educational experiences.
