Ming Chi University of Technology held its 2024 Commencement Ceremony on the morning of the 24th at the 5th floor gymnasium. The event was presided over by President Liu Tsu-Hua, with honored guests including Board Directors Lin Shan-Chih and Huang Chen-Ching, as well as Alumni Association President Huang Li-Chung and Secretary-General Tseng Tzu-Wen, who came to offer their congratulations. More than 3,000 attendees—including all day-division graduates, award-winning representatives from the continuing education division, parents, and distinguished guests from various sectors—joined the celebration.
This year marked the debut of Ming Chi’s exclusive graduation gown. The new design blends modern aesthetics with cultural elements, featuring a primary color of dark cyan, inspired by the traditional scholar’s robe of earlier times—simple yet elegant—with a symbolic meaning of “blue surpasses the indigo from which it comes,” representing growth beyond one’s origins. The gown also incorporates many thoughtful details, such as retaining the white base of the bachelor’s stole while outlining the Ming Chi emblem with red stitching. These creative touches brought pleasant surprises, allowing every graduate to wear attire that is both stylish and meaningful on this special day, instilling a sense of confidence and pride, and creating a more elegant and dignified atmosphere to leave beautiful memories of youth.
Graduates wearing the new gown expressed their delight: “This graduation gown really caught my eye—it’s stylish yet ceremonial, and I look so elegant in photos!” Many faculty members also gave high praise to the new design, believing it truly reflects the university’s care for its graduates, enabling each one to feel a deep sense of ceremony and respect on this special day.
In his speech, President Liu Thu-Hua reflected on recent years, noting that Ming Chi students have repeatedly excelled in competitions both domestically and internationally, showcasing outstanding talent and ability. For example, archer Li Chia-Ling has competed in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games for four consecutive years since enrollment, earning a total of 3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals for Ming Chi—a remarkable achievement. Behind each medal lie countless days of training, sweat, and perseverance, embodying a passion for sports and a commitment to honor. Among the graduates, Dr. Hung Kuan-I is the first locally trained doctoral graduate from the Biomedical PhD Program. During his studies, he published six high-quality papers in international academic journals, obtained three invention patents, and participated in the NSTC FITI Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, earning the recognition of Mexigen Biotech Inc. He is now engaged in preclinical animal testing and pilot production for commercialization, transforming academic knowledge and technology into real-world products to advance the commercialization of medical devices. Upholding the school motto “Diligent and Simple,” President Liu emphasized that this is not just an attitude or a spirit, but also a source of strength—teaching graduates to be earnest, hardworking, honest, and trustworthy, the very foundation for standing firm in society. He encouraged graduates, wherever they may be and whatever challenges they face, to hold fast to this belief and become pillars of society.
Continuing a tradition, the commencement offered an “instant photo printing” service for all students and faculty in attendance. This year’s Student Association graduation theme incorporated the keyboard keys “Ctrl” and “S,” with photo spots decorated accordingly. The theme, meaning “Save,” represents “The dream has begun—don’t forget to Ctrl + S (save).” It signifies the importance of preserving every effort and achievement in the journey toward one’s dreams. Graduates could photograph familiar campus spots, upload them, and instantly receive customized graduation-themed prints, creating treasured mementos alongside the newly debuted gowns.
The ceremony concluded with the song “An Jiu”, expressing the freedom, contentment, and joy of student life—the years when dreams first set sail and the future lay ahead to be created together. Amid warm and heartfelt blessings, the 2024 commencement came to a perfect close.
