Ming Chi University of Technology Showcases Innovative Medical Technology Achievements at the Tokyo International Medical Industry Exhibition

update date : 2024-11-25

Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) participated in the 2024 Japan International Medical Expo in Tokyo through the T5GIP Research Industrialization Platform, alongside Chang Gung University. This leading international medical expo in Japan showcases a wide range of enterprises in healthcare, long-term care, diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals. Professor Chen Ping-Yi from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MCUT presented his "New Bio-Glass Material for Composite Artificial Bone Development," while Associate Professor Hsu Ting-Yang from the Department of Industrial Design showcased the "IoT-Enabled Home Respiratory Trainer" as new innovations.

Professor Chen’s "New Bio-Glass Material for Composite Artificial Bone Development" (Rapid Osteointegration with Ion Release and Surface Optimized Architecture) utilizes bio-glass materials for bone fillers, combining bioactivity, degradability, and mechanical strength. This innovative material is non-toxic to human cells and stimulates osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, accelerating rapid new bone formation. To meet clinical needs, MCUT has developed composite artificial bone materials in various forms, including bone blocks, bone powder, bone clay, and bone gels.

Meanwhile, Associate Professor Hsu’s team developed the "IoT-Enabled Home Respiratory Trainer (Practical Application of IoT in Home Healthcare Products)," applying IoT technology to home medical devices. This device collects high-precision data, enabling patients to perform respiratory exercises at home while allowing medical professionals to remotely monitor their breathing conditions, significantly enhancing home healthcare efficiency and safety.

In addition to showcasing groundbreaking medical research, MCUT highlighted its strengths in interdisciplinary collaboration and technological innovation, attracting the interest of local clinics, care centers, and many visitors, including Chen Peng-Chi, General Manager of Wei Chi International Ltd., a representative of Marubeni Corporation in Japan.

In the recently released 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, MCUT ranked first among private technical universities in industry-academic collaboration and research environment. By participating in the expo through the T5GIP platform, MCUT garnered further international attention and moved closer to real-world applications for these innovations, bringing new momentum to the global medical industry.
