Ming Chi University of Technology, Wild bird society of Taipei, the Society of Wilderness, Environmental Protection Department of New Taipei city, High riverbank Construction Management office and Tenth river management branch, Water resources Agency of ministry of Economic Affairs started to communicate since 2024 and worked to build consensus among all parties. Hence, “2024 environment and sustainability forum” was organized in September 19 in Formosa Lecture Hall of the university to address pressing environmental challenges and explore collaborative pathways for building environmental action plans. The first topic was about “Action plan along Danshuei riverside-The present and future of Ludi embankment. And, the second topic addressed about “From ocean to river- Environment Education, going upstream or downstream” solution and action plans on Ludi embankment about emission treatment, transformation, facility renovation, land use and management.
Section chief of Tenth river management branch Mr. Wen, Qi-Zhong mentioned the Tenth River Management started the dredging project from 2021 along Danshuei river and completed approximately 150,000 square meters of river area. In the next phase, the dredging project will keep on as well as the mangrove removal action, and the branch would work closely with Ming Chi University of Technology, village offices of the region as to reserve the environment along Danshuei river with all parties.
Subsection chief of Environmental Protection Department of New Taipei city Mr. Lin, Tong-Qing highlighted that environmental protection cannot relied only on governmental efforts, actions from the public is also important as to reach a long-term improvement, and the environment education should start as early as elementary school to reinforce the importance of environmental protection in the class. In addition, with supportive actions from industrial and private entities environmental protection would be effectively promoted and maintain the sustainable development.
Subsection chief of High Riverbank Construction Management Office, Ms. Lin Ya-Ru explained land properties beyond Ludi embankment are very complicated, private cars and motorbikes parked in, personnel stuff and garbage found, they faced to a difficult management. High Riverbank construction Management Office planned to implement power and surveillance devices, regularly monitor and clean garbage around the area, with promotional activities and community education to aware people’s attention on the environment and reserve the natural beauty of Ludi embankment.
Senior specialist of General Management Office of Formosa Plastics Group, Mr. Su Qi-Rui commented Ming Chi University of Technology planned series of environmental workshops and classes with NGOs for different schools of the area, leading students to conduct site visits or ecological touring, participate in creatures and plants observation and record. They also brought students to clean up garbage along the riverside, which stimulated students’ motivation and promote ecological sustainable development, ameliorate the environment and reinforce students’ environment awareness.
The President of Ming Chi university Mr. Liu Thu-Hua mentioned the USR project contributed to a mutual cooperation with public and private sectors as well as with NGOs to build a national park of the region. They can set up descriptive plate in the park or around the wetland introducing important ecological specialties and species. Moreover, they can organize activities like “Global Earth Day”, “International Wetland Day” to attract public’s attention and participation. They intended to cooperate with public sectors and NGOs to build a long-term health monitoring system of Danshuei river, stimulate people’s attention and promote environmental protection actions, USR project can effectively integrated in regional environmental protection and educate people’s awareness and participation.
In recent years, Ming Chi university of technology has organized several environmental actions along the riverbank, effectively contributed to the environmental protection and they eagerly invite different parties to join in the movement, with supports from public and private sectors they intend to foresee a significant change between 2025 and 2027 to transform the garbage field into a land rich of ecological varieties and a paradise of migrating birds in northern Taiwan; to transmit the important message of ecological protection to the public and stimulate their participation in the Environment Protection.
