AI Agents Enter the Classroom! MCUT Partners with AI Experts to Build Teachers’ “AI Second Brain” and Drive Teaching Innovation
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the educational landscape. From instructional design and student learning analysis to administrative tasks, AI is increasingly becoming an important partner for educators. To help faculty members keep pace with the latest developments in AI, the College of Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) held the “AI-Integrated Instructional Design Workshop” on August 3.
The workshop featured Tsai-Ling Tuan, Vice President of DeepWise Digital Co., Ltd., and Chin-Kuei Hung, a renowned author of information technology and AI books and a distinguished alumnus of the MCUT College of Engineering. The two speakers shared the latest applications of generative AI in instructional design, knowledge management, and AI Agents. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty and staff across the university, providing an opportunity to explore innovative approaches to education in the AI era.
Kuo-Yung Hung, Dean of the College of Engineering, shared the story behind the workshop. He explained that during a recent visit to DeepWise Digital, the MCUT delegation received a warm welcome from distinguished alumnus Chin-Kuei Hung and had the opportunity to engage in an in-depth discussion with Vice President Tsai-Ling Tuan on the applications of generative AI in education. Through their conversations, Dean Hung recognized that both speakers possessed extensive experience in AI education and practical applications, and that their expertise closely aligned with the College of Engineering’s efforts to integrate AI into teaching. He therefore invited them to return to MCUT to share their knowledge and experience, leading to the organization of this workshop. The event also demonstrated MCUT’s commitment to bringing together alumni expertise and industry resources to promote educational innovation.
The first session, presented by Tsai-Ling Tuan, Vice President of DeepWise Digital, was titled “AI Awareness and Talent Exploration: Using AI to Help Teachers Discover Students’ Potential and Personalize Learning.” She discussed how AI can serve as a teaching assistant by helping educators understand students’ diverse learning characteristics and develop personalized teaching strategies based on individual needs. Using the iceberg model, she explained that factors beneath the surface—such as values, personality traits, and learning motivation—often have a significant influence on students’ academic performance. Through appropriate questioning and guidance, AI can help teachers gain a deeper and faster understanding of students’ needs, turning the concept of personalized education into practical classroom applications.
The second session was presented by Chin-Kuei Hung, a distinguished alumnus of the MCUT College of Engineering who has authored more than 300 books on information technology and has devoted over 40 years to technology writing and education. In his presentation, “Building Your AI Second Brain,” Hung introduced the latest developments in generative AI. Having witnessed the evolution from personal computers and the Internet to cloud computing and generative AI, he noted that AI is now transforming the way people work at an unprecedented pace. Returning to his alma mater, he hoped to bring the latest AI technologies to campus and help faculty members quickly understand and apply emerging AI tools.
Hung emphasized that one of the most important capabilities for future educators is not simply memorizing knowledge, but developing a system that can continuously accumulate, organize, and utilize knowledge. He therefore introduced the concept of an “AI Second Brain.” By using tools such as NotebookLM to build personal knowledge bases, educators can integrate teaching materials, research papers, presentations, and other resources, allowing AI to summarize key information, perform rapid searches, and analyze content, thereby improving lesson preparation and teaching efficiency.
During his visit, Hung also donated AI-related books to the College of Engineering to support senior students in developing AI literacy and professional skills. His contribution reflected the commitment of a distinguished alumnus to giving back to his alma mater and supporting the cultivation of future talent. During the event, MCUT President Thu-Hua Liu presented Hung with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his long-standing support for the University’s educational development.
The College of Engineering stated that AI is rapidly reshaping both industry and education. Moving forward, the College will continue to promote initiatives related to AI-integrated instructional design, teaching material development, and smart learning. These efforts aim to strengthen faculty members’ ability to apply AI in teaching while cultivating students’ AI literacy and interdisciplinary problem-solving skills, creating an innovative engineering education environment that combines creativity with practical applications.
