MCUT Electronic Engineering Students Participate in Overseas Study Program at Pusan National University, Strengthening International Collaboration and Optoelectronics Research
To broaden students' international perspectives, enhance their practical professional skills, and strengthen international academic collaboration, the Department of Electronic Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) organized an overseas study program and academic exchange in Busan, South Korea, from June 6 to June 12, 2026. Led by Assistant Professor Dian Luo, accompanied by Research Fellows Yi-Sheng Chen and Chun-Jen Shih from the College of Engineering, a delegation of 19 students visited Pusan National University (PNU) for an intensive academic program and participated in the Humanoid Olfactory Display International Research Conference 2026 (HIRC 2026). The program achieved outstanding educational and academic outcomes.
The itinerary began with visits to the National Maritime Museum of Korea and ARTE MUSEUM Busan, where students explored Korea's maritime technology, ecological exhibitions, and immersive digital art installations. These activities provided valuable insights into Korean culture and urban development while fostering intercultural competence and preparing students for the subsequent academic program.
During the study program at Pusan National University, students attended lectures on solar cells and perovskite optoelectronic materials delivered by Professor Ji-Youn Seo. They also toured the university's optoelectronics research laboratories and were introduced to advanced analytical instruments, including photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy systems, atomic force microscopes (AFM), solar simulators, and transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) systems. In addition, students participated in hands-on laboratory sessions involving perovskite thin-film coating, device fabrication, photovoltaic characterization, and laser patterning.
All participating students successfully fabricated functional perovskite solar cells exhibiting photovoltaic performance. Notably, one student achieved a power conversion efficiency of approximately 15% during the first attempt, an impressive accomplishment that received high praise from Professor Seo and the PNU research team. The students' performance demonstrated the strong experimental training and practical capabilities cultivated at MCUT.
Another highlight of the program was participation in HIRC 2026, which brought together leading researchers from South Korea, the United States, Taiwan, Japan, the United Kingdom, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Canada. The conference featured cutting-edge research on bio-inspired olfactory sensing, intelligent sensing devices, system integration, and artificial intelligence applications. Through attending keynote speeches and technical sessions, students gained first-hand exposure to emerging global research trends and broadened their international academic perspectives.
During the conference, Assistant Professor Dian Luo was invited to deliver an oral presentation, introducing the research team's latest achievements in high-efficiency perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) and engaging in in-depth discussions with international researchers on advanced materials processing and device technologies. In addition, Distinguished Professor Shun-Wei Liu, Director of the Organic Electronics Research Center at MCUT, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pusan National University RISE Project Group on behalf of the university. The agreement establishes a framework for future collaboration in organic electronics, perovskite optoelectronic devices, intelligent sensing technologies, and international talent cultivation, further strengthening the long-term academic partnership between the two institutions.
By integrating academic coursework, laboratory training, cultural visits, and participation in an international conference, the overseas study program significantly enhanced students' professional knowledge, practical skills, and intercultural competence while reinforcing the collaborative partnership between MCUT and Pusan National University. The program also highlights MCUT's continued commitment to internationalization and the cultivation of globally competitive engineering professionals.
