MCUT Connects with the New Taipei Poetry Festival to Practice USR and Deepen Local International Exchange
To broaden the international perspective of local communities and promote cross-cultural artistic exchange, the “New Taipei Community International Cultural Exchange and English Literacy Enhancement Project” team from Ming Chi University of Technology participated in the “2026 New Taipei Poetry Festival” this May, collaborating with the Shourangtang Branch Library in Wugu District, New Taipei City, to create a multicultural exchange platform. In celebration of Mother’s Day in May, the event adopted the theme “Writing Poetry for Mother / French Music and Poetry.” Through poetry, music, and interactive cultural experiences, community residents were able to gain a deeper appreciation of French culture, further enriching the event’s cultural depth and international perspective.
The core spirit of the event centered on “international exchange” and “local engagement.” Three French students from the project team were specially invited to participate and underwent several weeks of voice projection and stage movement training prior to the event. On May 2, during the opening press conference, the Director of the Cultural Affairs Department and the Director of the French Office in Taipei personally attended the event, demonstrating the impact of international education and local cultural practice. The three French students also represented the university by reciting the French poems Celle qui veille and À ma mère, both dedicated to maternal love, transforming international cultural heritage into a moving artistic experience.
The event was not only a cultural and artistic feast, but also an important practice in promoting “understanding and respect for multiculturalism.” Following the press conference, in addition to arranging performances, the project team also set up cultural booths offering complimentary French pastries and non-alcoholic French grape beverages. Interactive quizzes on French culture were also organized to enhance public participation and engagement. Furthermore, the French students personally led two French-inspired weaving craft workshops for children, allowing the seeds of international culture to take root and grow within the local community.
Ming Chi University of Technology stated that, in the future, the project team will continue integrating international resources and bringing more diverse, globally oriented educational energy into local communities, enabling the values of respect and equality to continue spreading through innovative artistic approaches.
