2026 Special Lecture: “Never Give Up—Creating ‘Qi’-Miracles”
This lecture originated in Hong Kong at the end of 2025, during the Love of Life Award ceremony, where Chairman Wen-Yuan Wang met Ms. Wei-Chi Kuo. Ms. Kuo lost all four limbs to sepsis in childhood and now carries out her daily activities and creative work using other parts of her body. Moved by the challenges she has faced and her unwavering courage in overcoming them, Chairman Wang found her story deeply inspiring and believed it to be a powerful example for young students. To provide students from the three affiliated universities with an opportunity to engage with diverse life experiences, he facilitated this special lecture. Ming Chi University of Technology hosted the first session on March 5, presided over by President Tsu-Hua Liu. In addition to faculty and students, the event was integrated with the General Education course on Life Education and held in the Ming Chi Auditorium for shared learning and exchange.
The speaker began by sharing her life experiences and engaging in meaningful dialogue with faculty and students. She invited the audience to reflect on what they might be able to do without the use of their hands and feet—a question that initially led many to feel that little could be done. She then invited participants on stage to experience writing with their wrists and playing the piano with their fists, allowing them to reflect on their thoughts and feelings. Ms. Kuo followed with a live demonstration of writing, piano playing, and dancing, which deeply moved the audience. During the reflection session, students shared that through firsthand experience, they came to realize that even without limbs, one can still face challenges with optimism, persist through difficulties, and bravely try new things to create one’s own path. The lecture concluded with a dance performance by Ms. Kuo, showing that with willingness and courage, seemingly impossible goals can be achieved, bringing the event to a heartfelt and uplifting close.
A total of 90 participants, including faculty and students, attended the lecture. Among them, 93% reported that the lecture and discussions helped them better understand how to live with perseverance and resilience; 91% felt inspired and emotionally moved; and 91% gained a better understanding of how to cope with emotions and stress in daily life. Overall, 93% of participants reported meaningful learning and positive takeaways. In addition, 93% agreed that the course design and arrangement were appropriate, and 94% were satisfied with the scheduling. In qualitative feedback, some students shared: “This made me realize that even without limbs, one can still face challenges with optimism, persist, and bravely try to create one’s own path,” and “She can do everything that ordinary people can do, and even possesses a kind of courage that many others do not.”
