The Digital Marketing Design Program “Fusion” received the Japan Designers Association Special Award at TISDC, standing out among only 0.5% of awarded entries.
The Taiwan International Student Design Competition (TISDC) is recognized as one of the largest student design competitions in the world, attracting participants from across the globe and showcasing a high level of international competitiveness.
In 2025, the competition received 16,329 submissions from 73 countries and 1,029 institutions, all evaluated by 138 international professional judges. With an extremely low overall award rate—particularly in the Architecture and Landscape Design category, where the rate fell below 0.5%—only projects demonstrating outstanding creativity, professional execution, and global vision were able to stand out.
The Visual Communication Design graduation project “Fusion”, developed under the Digital Marketing Design Program at Ming Chi University of Technology, was awarded the Jury Design Award in the Visual Design category. The project centers on Taiwanese tea and coffee culture, reinterpreting the craftsmanship of blending and pairing while proposing the concept of “Fusion” to represent the integration of Eastern and Western cultures.
Inspired by the cultural context of Taipei’s Yongkang Commercial District, the team observed the coexistence of traditional tea houses and emerging coffee shops, leading to the design theme of “the symbiosis of tea and coffee.” Through rigorous experimentation in blending and pairing—precisely controlling tea fermentation levels and coffee roasting depths—the team successfully created a third flavor, harmonizing tea and coffee into a refined and balanced sensory experience.
The project’s packaging design incorporates Eastern Zen aesthetics and imagery drawn from Taiwan’s landscapes, expressing an artistic vision that captures natural scenery within a compact visual form. This integration of cultural depth and contemporary design thinking earned high recognition from judges of the Japan Designers Association.
Achieving distinction among thousands of international entries, this less-than-0.5% winning opportunity reflects the long-term dedication, collaborative effort, and repeated refinement by both faculty and students of the program.
The award not only highlights Ming Chi University of Technology students’ keen sensitivity to local culture and strong marketing insight, but also demonstrates their ability to transform cultural values into design works of international standard.
