Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) has once again achieved an outstanding milestone. The research team from the Ph.D. Program in Biomedical and Medical Materials Engineering was honored with the 22nd National Innovation Award – Academic Research Innovation Award and was invited to attend the award ceremony on December 17, 2025, showcasing MCUT’s exceptional strength and achievements in smart healthcare and innovative medical materials.

　　The award-winning technology, titled “A novel bioactive glass-ceramic as the development of bone graft substitute,” was jointly developed by a multidisciplinary team consisting of Prof. Pin-Yi Chen, Dr. Po-Liang Lai, Prof. Chi-Yun Wang, Prof. Kuei-Chih Feng, Dr. Guan-Yi Hung, Ph.D. candidate Yu-Jie Wu, and Prof. Chi-Shun Tu. By integrating bioactive glass, resorbable calcium sulfate, and collagen, this innovative technology demonstrates multifunctional properties and high clinical applicability. It not only exhibits excellent bone integration performance but also shows strong potential to surpass traditional autografts, offering a new solution for clinical bone repair.

　　This award not only recognizes Prof. Pin-Yi Chen and his team for their strong R&D capabilities in innovative medical materials and smart healthcare, but also highlights MCUT’s long-term commitment to advancing biomedical research, translating academic achievements into practical applications, and promoting clinical implementation. Through continuous integration of cross-disciplinary resources, MCUT is building a comprehensive R&D ecosystem from fundamental research to clinical application, strengthening technology commercialization and industry collaboration, and steadily advancing toward its goal of becoming an Industry-Academia Collaborative Research University.
