2025 French Week: A Vibrant French Feast of Culture, Cuisine, Stories, DIY Crafts, and Sports
The annual French Week at our university once again brought the campus to life, continuing a long-standing tradition that has been warmly welcomed by students each year. Planned collaboratively by French exchange students, this year’s French Week featured a rich and diverse program including language exchange activities, French cuisine, fables and storytelling, creative handicrafts, and cross-cultural sports competitions. Throughout the week, participants were immersed in the elegance and charm of French culture, creating a lively and inspiring atmosphere across campus.
The event kicked off with an Opening night that attracted a large number of students. Through relaxed and engaging language exchange sessions, French exchange students guided participants to experience the French language in a natural and enjoyable way. A variety of French board games were also prepared, allowing students to explore French-style logic and humor through play. In addition, the exchange students showcased French desserts and handicrafts, offering participants a multi-sensory cultural experience - from visual enjoyment and tasting to hands-on creativity.
One of the highlights of the week was You are what you eat, which once again became a focal point of the event. French students introduced several classic French dishes in an accessible and engaging manner, including the rich and savory Croque-Monsieur, the smooth and flavorful Quiche, the indispensable Bread & Cheese, the aromatic Onion Tart, the ever-popular Crêpes, and the indulgent yet balanced Dark Chocolate Cake. While enjoying these delicacies, students also learned about the cultural significance of each dish in everyday French life, truly embarking on a cultural journey through taste.
The Get the Picture? was another standout feature of this year’s French Week. French exchange students shared classic stories from La Fontaine’s Fables, such as “The Lion and the Mouse,” helping students understand themes of kindness, reciprocity, and the narrative style of French literature. They also introduced the traditional French tale “Little Red Riding Hood,” originally written by French author Charles Perrault. Through these stories, students gained insights into French literary traditions and cultural backgrounds while reflecting on the wisdom and moral values embedded in fables and fairy tales.
The latter part of the event featured the colorful and creative Scoubidou French DIY. This classic childhood craft from France was demonstrated by the exchange students, who guided participants in making keychains and bracelets. The relaxed crafting process encouraged cultural exchange and offered students a closer look at everyday French life.
The 2025 French Week concluded on a high note with sports competitions, including the distinctly French Pétanque and the highly popular Basketball games. Local and international students formed mixed teams, showcasing teamwork and sportsmanship through friendly competition. With the support of the Physical Education Office, the events were conducted smoothly and professionally. The energetic and joyful atmosphere provided a memorable and dynamic ending to the week-long celebration.
Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of both faculty and students, French Week 2025 came to a successful close. The event not only highlighted the diversity of French culture but also strengthened cross-cultural exchange between local and international students. Through interaction, learning, and shared experiences, participants gained knowledge, friendships, and broader perspectives, leaving behind lasting and meaningful cultural memories on campus.
