Philippine Society for Educational Research and Evaluation (PSERE) Delegation Visits Ming Chi University of Technology to Strengthen Collaboration in Sustainable Education

On 29 May 2025, a fifteen‑member high‑level delegation from the Philippine Society for Educational Research and Evaluation (PSERE) visited Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) in Taiwan to reinforce Taiwan–Philippines higher‑education links and explore long‑term collaboration in sustainable education. The delegation was headed by Dr. Erna V. Yabut, PSERE President and Vice‑President of Centro Escolar University (CEU), and comprised senior leaders from CEU, PHINMA St. Jude College, University of Antique, St. Anthony College (Antique) and other Philippine institutions—underscoring their shared commitment to sustainability and international partnership.

Hosted by MCUT’s Office of International Affairs, the visit began with a tour of the University History Hall, where guests were introduced to MCUT’s founding philosophy, milestones and mission. The delegation next visited the Center for Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, where Director Prof. Yen‑Jen Chen outlined the center’s core research in AI, data analytics and smart manufacturing, showcasing MCUT’s technological strengths.

A formal welcome ceremony followed in Formosa Hall. Dr. Cherng‑Min Ma, MCUT Vice‑President and Chief Sustainability Officer, delivered opening remarks, expressing enthusiasm for future cooperation. Dr. Yabut thanked MCUT for its warm reception and affirmed PSERE’s interest in joint initiatives. Both sides then exchanged introductory presentations—MCUT highlighted its internationalization roadmap, while PSERE showcased its member universities—laying a foundation of mutual understanding and trust.
In the thematic session, Assoc. Prof. Chun‑Ming Yang, former Director of MCUT’s Institutional Research Center, delivered a keynote titled “Strategies and Achievements in Advancing the SDGs.” He detailed MCUT’s work in green campus initiatives, sustainability curricula and community engagement, attracting keen interest from the Philippine delegates. Lively discussions ensued on sustainable‑education practices, institutional strategy and regional cooperation opportunities.

Provost Fong‑Rey (Kevin) Liu then introduced MCUT’s interdisciplinary Bachelor Program in Industrial Artificial Intelligence, illustrating the university’s forward‑looking approach to talent cultivation that integrates AI with industry applications.
The visit concluded with a souvenir exchange and group photo, symbolizing a successful and meaningful engagement. Both parties agreed to pursue concrete projects—such as student exchanges, faculty collaborations and joint or dual‑degree programs—to build a model of innovative, sustainability‑focused higher‑education cooperation. MCUT will continue to deepen academic ties with Southeast Asia, broaden its global outlook and foster impactful international partnerships.
