The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) held the "MCUT RACING - MC24 New Car Unveiling" event on January 24, 2024, showcasing the latest research and development achievements of the university’s racing team to faculty, students, and industry representatives. Under the guidance of Professor Ming-Yen Chen, the MCUT Racing Team—comprising students from the vehicle engineering division—successfully developed its first autonomous race car. This milestone marks a significant breakthrough in autonomous vehicle technology and lays a solid foundation for participation in the Formula SAE (FSAE) competition.
FSAE is an international student engineering competition that challenges teams to independently design, manufacture, and test a race car from the ground up while managing financial planning, operations, and technical development. This rigorous process not only deepens students' understanding of vehicle engineering but also cultivates their ability to collaborate with industry sponsors, enhancing both their practical experience and teamwork skills. Within just one year, the MCUT Racing Team has made remarkable progress in vehicle design and autonomous driving technology, demonstrating students’ potential and dedication to innovation.
During the unveiling event, students enthusiastically presented the technical highlights and development process of the autonomous race car to distinguished guests. A live demonstration was conducted to showcase the vehicle’s performance and stability. University leaders attended the event to recognize the team’s hard work and achievements, emphasizing the project's significance in strengthening students' engineering competencies and practical skills. Additionally, they acknowledged its role in advancing MCUT’s expertise in vehicle engineering.
Students involved in the project expressed that through this experience, they not only acquired essential skills in race car design and manufacturing but also gained valuable insights into problem-solving and teamwork. With confidence in their future endeavors, the team remains committed to further refining their design and aims to achieve outstanding results in upcoming international FSAE competitions.
