Despite the impact of Typhoon and the low temperature, Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) participated and won the 4th place award in the 2024 Mizuno Relay Marathon held in Wanli, New Taipei City, on November 17. Led by Dean of Student Affairs Guo Yi-Yong (郭宜雍) and Professor Lai Yi-Ting (賴怡廷) from the Department of Materials Engineering, the team delivered an outstanding performance, securing fourth place in the highly competitive university-level Group. This achievement not only demonstrated the perseverance and fighting spirit of the team members but also reflected the university’s commitment and support for sports.
The participating team was captained by Huang Xie-An (黃偕安), a first-year master's student from the Department of Materials Engineering, who led a group of elite athletes from the university. Competing against teams from universities across Taiwan, the MCUT team underwent extensive training and preparation before the race. Their steady performance during the competition resulted in a total relay time of 3:10:10, earning them fourth place. Notably, they finished less than five minutes behind the second-place team from National Taiwan University (3:05:51) and the third-place team from the National Defense Medical Center (3:06:31).
Throughout the event, the university provided full support for student athletes in terms of transportation and accommodation. Additionally, multiple sponsors contributed significantly, ensuring that the team had access to essential supplies and equipment. FOOTLAND provided professional socks, while UP SPORTS developed a comprehensive nutrition and hydration plan to help the athletes perform at their best. Dean Guo Yi-Yong (郭宜雍) emphasized that this race was not only a test of physical endurance and willpower but also an invaluable exercise in team spirit. Professor Lai Yi-Ting (賴怡廷) praised the athletes for their hard work and resilience and expressed gratitude to both the university and the sponsors for their support. He remarked, “This honor belongs to every athlete and supporter who contributed to the competition.”
Team leader Huang Xie-An (黃偕安) shared his thoughts after the race: “It was not easy to assemble a relay team of six men and two women. We even recruited several non-varsity students to complete the relay. I sincerely appreciate the full cooperation and dedication of my teammates, which allowed us to achieve the best result in our team’s history.”
By participating in this marathon relay, MCUT showcased the achievements of its holistic education approach. The university hopes to continue advancing both academic and athletic development, providing students with diverse opportunities for learning and growth.
