On the evening of October 21, 2024, Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) hosted the grand "2024 International Cultural Night" on the first floor of the Innovation Building. The event attracted 172 students from around the world, offering a vibrant cultural experience with diverse performances. Centered on fostering global perspectives and cultural integration, this annual highlight brought students together for an unforgettable evening.
Students from Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Thailand, France, Switzerland, Malaysia, and Ethiopia participated in the event. The 13 performance groups showcased the richness and diversity of global cultures through music, dance, and fashion. For instance, Indonesian students performed energetic traditional dances that transported the audience to the vibrant islands of Southeast Asia. The Indian team ignited the atmosphere with colorful Bollywood dances, exuding passion and vitality. Vietnamese students presented a group dance that highlighted their culture's dynamic beauty and coordination, captivating the audience with their energy and charm.
In addition to performances by international students, local student groups also shone brightly. The Korean Studies Club energized the audience with youthful Korean pop dances, adding a modern twist to the evening. The Guitar Club delivered a heartwarming performance with gentle melodies and harmonious singing. Making their debut this year, the MCUT Drum Arts Club captivated the audience with a powerful traditional drumming showcase. The rhythmic and commanding beats earned roaring applause, marking one of the evening's most memorable highlights.
To encourage student participation and creativity, several awards were introduced, including the "Most Popular Award," "Best Costume Award," and "Best Courage Award." These accolades not only recognized the efforts of the participants but also inspired more students to engage in future events. Award recipients were met with enthusiastic applause and congratulations, becoming the stars of the stage.
After the event, students praised the evening highly. A local student remarked, "This was a fantastic experience! I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the event, and it was incredibly well-organized. A big thank you to the school for arranging such a meaningful event for international students." A Vietnamese international student shared, "This was a platform for us to share our culture and showcase who we are. It was touching to see our country's culture being appreciated." Many students expressed their hope for more similar events in the future to create even more opportunities for exchange between local and international students.
Dr. Chieh-Lan Lee, Director of the Office of International Affairs, emphasized the university’s commitment to promoting cross-cultural exchange and advancing campus internationalization. She highlighted the importance of creating platforms for students to showcase their talents, helping them develop global competence and a deep understanding of diverse cultures. This commitment strengthens MCUT’s efforts toward achieving a truly internationalized campus.
The International Cultural Night was more than just a celebration of cultures; it was a milestone in fostering mutual understanding and broadening global perspectives among students. It demonstrated MCUT's dedication to internationalization, marking a memorable chapter in the university’s journey toward global integration.
