In the global push toward sustainable development, the MCUT Research Center for Intelligent Medical Devices, under the leadership of Dean Dr. Kuo-Yung Hung, has partnered with Chang Gung University of Science and Technology’s (CGUST) Department of Gerontology and Health Care Management, led by Director Dr. Shu-Hung Chang, to implement multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives targeting Taiwan’s diplomatic allies. This collaboration not only demonstrates Taiwan’s strong support for its allied nations but also underscores its active role in global sustainable development.
As Taiwan is on the verge of becoming a super-aged society, the increasing demand for elderly care has prompted MCUT and CGUST to establish the “Smart Elderly-Care Industry Accelerator” (SECIA), with financial support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This accelerator focuses on fostering growth in the smart elderly care industry, leveraging MCUT’s technological innovations and solutions to empower startups. In a groundbreaking initiative, the accelerator has collaborated with Chang Gung Health and Cultural Village to validate advanced smart healthcare technologies, striving to provide more humane and efficient health management services.
As part of this initiative, Dr. Kuo-Yung Hung, Director of the Research Center for Intelligent Medical Devices, has personally conducted training for 32 senior professionals from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies, including Paraguay, Guatemala, Argentina, Chile, Tuvalu, Belize, Saint Vincent, Colombia, Ecuador, and Saint Lucia. The "Vocational Training Program for Healthcare Professionals" includes: Development of implantable medical devices, Smart system development and experience sharing, STEM education and design thinking-based innovative teaching methods. This program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of local healthcare professionals, ultimately improving healthcare quality in allied nations.
MCUT Research Center for Intelligent Medical Devices has incorporated several SDGs into its curriculum, including:
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 5: Gender Equality
SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
SDG 10: Reduced Inequality
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
This approach strengthens international collaboration with Taiwan’s allied nations, enhances the global recognition of Taiwan’s University Social Responsibility (USR) efforts, and highlights Taiwan’s active role in both international outreach and local service.
Through these initiatives, MCUT and CGUST continue to foster long-term collaboration between Taiwan and its diplomatic allies. At the same time, they respond to the growing global demand for elderly healthcare and sustainable development, demonstrating Taiwan’s technological and humanistic contributions to the international community.
