New Year Celebration and Cultural Exchange Festival 2018

To Celebrate the New Year and bridge the local students and the international students to understand and respect each other’s cultures and customs, the New Year Celebration and Cultural Exchange Festival 2018 was held by the General Education Center (GEC) and Ming Chi International Student Association (MISA) affiliated to the Student Organizations and Clubs, Office of Student Affairs on 26 January, 2018.

After the opening remarks delivered by Dr. Brian Pwu, the director of the GEC, and Dr. Ruby Kuo, the advisor of MISA, the local students and the international students from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia and Vietnam started to introduce how people celebrate New Year in their own countries and the lucky/ fortune words they use during the new year season.

The New Year Song Contest brought the festival to the climax. Each team sang a new-year song in their mother tongue wearing their traditional costumes. The audiences were immersed in the exotic melodies and pleasant atmospheres. After the wonderful performances, the Indonesian team won first place with the song ‘Buka Semanga Baru”, meaning Open New Spirit. The Indian team and the Mongolian team received second and third places respectively.

Team Vietnam performed "Ngày Xuân Long Phụng Sum Vầy" which means "Very Happy Getting Together on Spring Days ".

Moreover, many delicious home-made Mongolian and Vietnamese dishes were prepared and served by the international students.
