Three universities within the Formosa Plastics Group—Chang Gung University, Chang Gung University of Science and Technology, and Ming Chi University of Technology—have jointly organized a USR exhibition themed “Seeing Change in Local Communities.” The six-month static exhibition is being held at the Formosa Plastics Group Museum. Professor Cherng-Min Ma, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of Ming Chi University of Technology, led senior university administrators and the USR team to attend the opening ceremony on August 19, joining the partner universities in celebrating their collective achievements in advancing University Social Responsibility (USR).

Ming Chi University of Technology currently implements five USR projects supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, focusing on three major areas: environmental sustainability, industry engagement and economic sustainability, and cultural sustainability. These projects include the international USR project “Co-op Design: Moving beyond San Chiao Yung to Foster Community Cultural Intelligence and Global Competence”; the Sprout-type USR projects “New Taipei Industry ESG Practices : Greener and Better” and “USR Expansion Project for Cooperation with Northern Taiwan Themed Cultural Centers”; and the emerging USR projects “New Taipei City Community International Cultural Exchange and English Proficiency Enhancement Project” and “Environmental Sustainability and Education Project for Northern Taiwan-From Mountains to River” Covering local cultural preservation, environmental education, industrial ESG practices, and international cultural exchange, these initiatives demonstrate how the university collaborates with local communities and connects local practices with the international community.

The university’s USR achievements have also received significant recognition. Ming Chi University of Technology was awarded First Place in the Private Technical and Vocational Universities category of the 2026 CommonWealth University Citizen Awards. In addition, the “New Taipei City Community International Cultural Exchange and English Proficiency Enhancement Project” received an Award of Excellence in the Talent Co-Learning category of the 2026 Global Views Monthly University Social Responsibility Award. These honors highlight Ming Chi’s commitment to addressing local needs through education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and international exchange, while demonstrating the university’s tangible social impact.

The implementation sites of Ming Chi’s USR projects extend across various districts of New Taipei City, with long-term engagement in Xinzhuang, Taishan, Wugu, and Shulin. Its international initiatives extend from New Taipei City to Southeast Asia, building connections with Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand. The international USR project has further expanded its reach to Germany, fostering cross-border exchange and collaboration. Through these efforts, Ming Chi broadens its international perspective, connects local experiences with global resources, and develops a USR model that “deepens local engagement and builds international connections.”

Professor Cherng-Min Ma, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of Ming Chi University of Technology, stated, “Ming Chi University of Technology takes USR as a starting point for action, connecting the university’s professional expertise and the creativity of our faculty and students with the needs of local communities. Through this approach, students learn through real-world practice, while the university’s knowledge and capabilities can make a meaningful contribution to society.”

The “Seeing Change in Local Communities” USR Exhibition will be on display at the Formosa Plastics Group Museum for six months. Visitors are welcome to explore the USR initiatives of the three universities and discover how higher education can respond to social needs through professional expertise, create meaningful change through action, and build a more sustainable future starting from local communities.
