Seeing Land and Stories Through Film: Director of The Home Journey Shares His Creative Journey

  The General Education Center organized a documentary screening and director’s talk for The Home Journey on the evening of January 22, 2026, at the Lecture Hall on the 1st Floor of the Innovation Building. The event aimed to enhance students’ cultural literacy and enrich the campus arts atmosphere. Documentary director Chen Chih-Han was specially invited to engage in an exchange with faculty and students. Through the screening and sharing session, students were provided with an opportunity to experience documentary filmmaking and to gain a deeper understanding of local culture and everyday life through film.

  The event featured a screening of The Home Journey, which presents stories of people and local landscapes from different regions. Through its visual storytelling, the film offers diverse perspectives on life and cultural characteristics across Taiwan. The content, closely connected to everyday experiences, highlights the relationship between people and the land, while demonstrating the value of documentary filmmaking in preserving local memories and conveying cultural meaning.

  During the post-screening session, Director Chen shared his creative journey and filming philosophy, explaining how field observation is conducted, how interactions with interviewees are established, and how authenticity and narrative are balanced in documentary production. He also emphasized the time and dedication required in documentary filmmaking, allowing participants to gain a deeper understanding of the production process.

  The event attracted approximately 83 faculty members and students. Through the documentary screening and exchange with the director, participants not only gained an understanding of documentary filmmaking, but also developed greater awareness of local culture and social issues. Through viewing and discussion, they were encouraged to reflect on the relationship between individuals and the land, and to appreciate the role of documentary film in contemporary society.
