Strengthening Academic Pathways: Ming Chi University of Technology Brings Six Departments to Taishan High School for In-Class Outreach
To enhance the articulation between vocational high schools and higher education, and to help students better understand diverse academic pathways and industry trends, Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) recently organized an outreach team consisting of six academic units: the Department of Environmental Safety and Health Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Bachelor’s Program in Semiconductor Materials and Processes, Energy and Battery Program, and Bachelor’s Program in Industrial Artificial Intelligence. The team visited Taishan High School to conduct in-class presentations and engage directly with students and faculty.
The outreach activity focused on “academic planning and career development.” Faculty members introduced their respective departments, including program features, curriculum design, career prospects, and industry applications. Through systematic presentations, students were able to gain a comprehensive understanding of various fields in engineering, technology, and management, helping them make informed decisions about their future academic paths.
During the sessions, faculty members incorporated practical case studies and industry trend analyses, covering emerging fields such as semiconductor manufacturing, smart manufacturing, green energy technologies, and industrial artificial intelligence. They also shared information about project-based learning and internship opportunities at MCUT, highlighting the integration of theory and practice. Students actively participated in discussions, raising questions about application materials, learning portfolios, and future career planning, demonstrating strong interest in these fields.
In addition, MCUT introduced its well-established industry-academia collaboration model and its one-year full-time internship program, which allows students to gain hands-on experience in real-world industrial settings during their junior year. This approach strengthens professional competencies and career readiness, forming a complete talent development pathway from high school to university and ultimately to industry. The university also offers various scholarships and financial aid programs to support students’ academic pursuits.
MCUT stated that it will continue to strengthen its collaboration with Taishan High School and other vocational institutions through outreach activities, campus visits, and curriculum alignment initiatives. These efforts aim to assist students in early academic planning and to cultivate highly skilled professionals who meet industry demands, thereby contributing to the advancement of technical and vocational education.
