The Ming Chi University of Technology team has been recognized by the 2025 Cathay Outstanding Scholarship and Grant Program, showcasing its commitment to sustainability through the project “Viewing Marine Debris from the Land.”
The selection results of the “2025 Cathay Excellence Scholarship Program” were announced recently. Following a rigorous evaluation process, a total of 128 outstanding individuals and teams were selected this year across the Outstanding Student Award and Special Feature Award categories from more than 500 competing applications.
Students Cheng Peng-Lu, Hsieh Po-Min, Hsiao Cheng-Che, and Chin Kai-Hsi from Ming Chi University of Technology stood out with their proposal, “Seeing Marine Debris from the Land,” and were awarded NTD 120,000 in funding. This achievement highlights the university’s students’ strong capacity for critical thinking and practical action in the areas of environmental conservation and social responsibility.
The university’s University Social Responsibility (USR) Program has long engaged faculty and students in local communities, guiding them to delve into core issues and rethink real environmental needs. Building on this spirit, the team approached the topic from the perspective of land-based waste, exploring the root causes of marine debris and calling on society to recognize the impact of human behavior on the ocean environment. Their creativity and social value were highly praised by the judges.
This award not only affirms the team’s dedication but also symbolizes Ming Chi University of Technology’s achievements in fostering awareness and action on sustainability issues.
