MCUT Highlights Cultural Sustainability and Community Partnership at USR Expo

update date : 2025-12-26

The 2025 University Social Responsibility Expo (USR EXPO) was held on September 12–13 at the EXPO Dome in Taipei’s Flora Expo Park, bringing together USR teams from colleges and universities nationwide to showcase diverse achievements in social engagement. Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) participated under the theme “Cultural Sustainability and Community Cohesion,” presenting five projects that highlight the institution’s long-standing commitment to local engagement and global connections.

MCUT’s five featured projects included the international initiative “Co-op Design: Community Cultural Wisdom and Global Empowerment in Sanxia,” two long-term development projects—“Green Comes, Green Thrives: ESG Practices for New Taipei Industries” and “Extending the Northern Taiwan Confucian Belt Cultural Heritage Initiative”—and two emerging programs, “International Cultural Exchange and English Literacy Enhancement in New Taipei Communities” and “Between Mountains and Rivers: The Northern Taiwan Confucian Belt.” These projects address themes ranging from sustainability and cultural preservation to cross-cultural exchange, underscoring MCUT’s efforts in circular resource use, social inclusion, and regional revitalization.

MCUT President Chuh-Hua Liu emphasized that the university’s USR approach centers on mobilizing academic resources for social good, understanding local characteristics and needs, and transforming community engagement into meaningful knowledge application. He added that MCUT’s strategy integrates both “global vision” and “local grounding,” responding to community needs while fostering talent capable of engaging with the world and contributing to their home communities.

Beyond national project booths and poster exhibitions, this year’s EXPO featured the “USR SHOW x USR TALK All-Age Stage” and hands-on workshops designed to invite broader public participation. MCUT’s “Northern Taiwan Confucian Belt Cultural Heritage Initiative” hosted a performance by the New Immigrant “Kaiyin Dance Troupe,” which showcased a traditional Indonesian sailboat dance, highlighting multicultural integration. Meanwhile, the “Co-op Design” team led a popular indigo dyeing workshop featuring Sanxia’s iconic craft. The activity received the highest number of public votes in the Cultural Sustainability category, earning the title “Most Impactful USR,” a testament to the university’s efforts in cultural preservation.

The USR EXPO serves not only as a platform for interuniversity exchange but also as a public-facing stage to communicate the value of university–community partnerships. As MCUT continues its participation in the Ministry of Education’s fourth-phase USR initiative, the university remains committed to deepening local engagement. Looking ahead, MCUT aims to integrate faculty expertise, student participation, community collaborations, and international resources to drive innovative, high-impact initiatives that further enrich cultural heritage and foster sustainable development in New Taipei City, advancing a shared vision of mutual growth between the university and the community.
