MCUT Faculty Attend EMI Training in Australia, Advancing All-English Teaching Capacity

update date : 2025-12-22

Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) continues to promote bilingual education, aiming to cultivate talent equipped with both professional expertise and global competitiveness. To strengthen the university’s faculty team for English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), the Center for Teaching and Learning Resources and the Office of International Affairs jointly launched the “Advanced EMI Teaching Methodologies and Language Enhancement Program at the University of Adelaide” in 2024. This initiative aims to develop outstanding MCUT faculty as EMI seed instructors and further enhance the university’s internationalization efforts.

This year, eleven faculty members from various departments were nominated by the university to attend the two-week, 40-hour professional training program at the University of Adelaide from August 4 to 15, 2025. The program covered professional English communication, EMI course design, classroom interaction strategies, and intercultural communication. It also included international peer collaboration and hands-on project practice, enabling participants to refine their EMI teaching abilities in authentic instructional settings.

During the training, MCUT faculty not only completed English-medium presentations and professional course reports but also engaged in cross-national learning with teachers from Chile, Japan, and other countries. Through expert lectures, group discussions, and teaching demonstrations, participants exchanged insights on how to deliver specialized knowledge in English effectively and practiced strategies to enhance classroom engagement. Cultural visits and exchange activities were also arranged, broadening the teachers’ global perspectives and strengthening international academic connections.

Upon returning to Taiwan, the trained faculty members will assume the role of EMI seed instructors, sharing their experiences, developing teaching materials collaboratively, and supporting professional development activities to help departments further optimize their bilingual course design. These efforts will encourage more faculty and students to participate in all-English learning. The initiative not only helps cultivate students with strong subject knowledge and English proficiency but also echoes Taiwan’s “Bilingual Nation 2030” policy, demonstrating MCUT’s forward-looking commitment to bilingual education.

MCUT has stated that it will continue to advance EMI faculty training and curriculum innovation, progressively building a more comprehensive bilingual learning environment to enhance the institution's competitiveness on the international higher education stage. The university earnestly encourages all teaching staff to collectively engage in EMI program development, and looks forward to seeing the growth in professional capabilities and international perspective from students who actively enrolled in relevant courses, as we jointly advance towards a new milestone in EMI teaching.
