Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) held its grand graduation ceremony on the 3rd of June. Starting at 9:30 AM, the ceremony sent off a total of 1,234 graduates this year, including 3 doctoral students, 214 master's students, and 1,017 bachelor's students. Vice President Cheng-Min Ma presided over the ceremony, with esteemed guests in attendance to offer their blessings, including Chairman Wen-Yuan Wang, Chairman Shan-Chi Lin, Chairman Chen-Ching Huang, Chairman Li-Chung Huang from the Alumni Association, and the head of the Taishan District Office.

Due to the principal’s confirmed Covid and physical discomfort, Vice Principal Cheng-Min Ma presided over the event. Thanks to the strong support from the Board of Directors and the concerted efforts of the faculty and students, Vice Principal Ma mentioned in his speech that in the current year (2023), MCUT ranked first among all private vocational universities in Taiwan in the USR University Citizenship Survey held by CommonWealth Magazine. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, MCUT ranked between 401-600 globally and fourth among all technological universities in Taiwan, showcasing MCUT’s strength in vocational education and its academic standing on the international stage. As MCUT is approaching its 60th anniversary this year, most of its graduates have received recognition from society and businesses in spite of the small number of them. Whether the graduates are pursuing further education, taking up a job, or serving their military service in the future, MCUT will always be a memorable place where we have grown together. Graduating and leaving may be temporary, but gratitude and continuous learning are lifelong. The performance of our graduates is impressive and praiseworthy, reflecting the bright future of MCUT.

In Chairman Wen-Yuan Wang’s speech, he began by congratulating the graduates on their achievements, upcoming entry into the society, and also the starting of a new stage of learning. He mentioned the digital transformation and competition brought about by artificial intelligence, and emphasized the need for educational institutions to integrate theory with practice, meet societal demands, enhance students’ competitiveness, and cultivate talents required by the national industries. In his address, he also reminded the graduates about the impact of the economic downturn and the increasingly complex social environment, with numerous cases of fraud in various forms and techniques that are difficult to guard against. Therefore, he advised everyone to be especially cautious and vigilant during job searches, and to remember that “there is no such thing as a free lunch,” emphasizing the importance of hard work and effort for fruitful results. Lastly, he encouraged the graduates to stay grounded, embody the spirit of the school motto, “Diligence, Perseverance, Frugality and Trustworthiness,” take pride in MCUT, and perform well in society.

At this year's ceremony, diplomas were handed out and the turning of the tassel were presented. Various awards were also given out, including Academic Excellence Awards, Outstanding Work-Study and Internship Awards, Perfect Attendance Awards, Service Excellence Awards, and Passing-on Scholarship. This year, a special addition, “Outstanding Sports Award,” was received by Tzu-Chen Lin, a student from the Master’s Program of Business Management. During the time at the university, she participated in the archery competition of National Intercollegiate Athletic Games and achieved a total of five gold medals and two silver medals. In the 112th National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, she led the archery team to an outstanding performance, winning three gold medals and one silver medal. This achievement verifies MCUT’s commitment to holistic education and also the efforts in cultivating talents with a diligent and down-to-earth attitude, emphasizing both theory and practice, and fostering lifelong learning abilities. It demonstrates the university's ability to shine in various fields and adds a different brilliance to the institution.

The ceremony concluded with the graduates singing the song “When We Walked Through Together.” Afterwards, the graduates embarked on a tour of the campus, visiting designated photo spots where they could capture memories of their time studying and share the experience with their friends and family. The university also provided photo printing machines for immediate photo keepsakes, allowing the graduates to preserve unforgettable moments. Additionally, each department organized graduation tea parties, providing an opportunity for the graduates to receive blessings from their juniors. Throughout the entire day, the campus was filled with a warm atmosphere, leaving behind even more cherished memories in the hears of students and parents on this special day.
