Not Fearful of the Impact of Low Birth Rate, Ming Chi’s Enrollment Rate Ranks among the Best

update date : 2023-03-10

Universities and colleges in Taiwan have recently faced the impact of the low birth rate, which seriously affects enrollment. Private schools are more severely affected than public ones, and each school is doing its best to attract excellent students. The Ministry of Education announced the enrollment rate of new students in universities across the country for the 111th academic year, and Ming Chi has a 99.6% enrollment rate in the day division, being first among private schools and higher than other public ones. To address the challenges of the low birth rate and intense competition in higher education, Ming Chi has improved its school governance system, adhered to the founding spirit of education, and focused on reducing the impact of low enrollment. The university is trusted by students and parents for its "whole-person education" concept and excellent educational performance.

With the rise of emerging technologies, students' choices for schools and departments have changed in accordance with environmental factors. In particular, the semiconductor industry has grown significantly in recent years, and enterprises are eager for talents. To cultivate π-type interdisciplinary talents in the technology industry, Ming Chi enrolled over 100 students in three bachelor programs: "Industrial Artificial Intelligence," "Semiconductor Materials and Fabrication," and "Digital Marketing Design" for the 111th academic year. Ming Chi also offers the most abundant "Freshman Honors Scholarship" nationwide. About 300 outstanding freshmen chose to study at Ming Chi instead of national schools such as National Tsing Hua University, National Taipei University of Technology, and National Yunlin University of Science and Technology. In the 109th academic year, Ming Chi was the first university to propose the "Formosa Plastics Group Scholarship Program." With its "Sandwich Practical Internship" system, the university has laid the foundation for students' basic professional skills and improved their competitiveness in the workplace.

To cultivate the next generation of talents, Ming Chi integrates the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its school governance. In the 2021 and 2022 "Worldwide USR University Citizenship" surveys, the university won the second place among private technological universities in Taiwan. The Taiwan Sustainable Energy Research Foundation awarded two of Ming Chi's Action Projects, "New Taipei Industry as One, Ming Chi's Professionals Creating a Win-Win Situation" and "Rooted in the Ground, Branching Out for a Diverse and Inclusive Society," with the silver and bronze prizes at the 2021 TCSA Taiwan Sustainable Award. By strengthening the promotion of sustainable development education, Ming Chi not only cultivates students but also provides numerous resources and opportunities to achieve educational integrity and economic viability. The university aims to enhance its sustainability and cultivate sustainable professionals while exerting its social influence and supporting the society in achieving SDGs. Ming Chi will continue to strive for excellence and become a leading university with the goal of cultivating interdisciplinary talents and making a positive impact on society."
