Mr. Yung-Ching Wang, the founder of Formosa Plastics, was renowned for his lifelong belief in hard work and simplicity, his habit of regular exercise, and his practical actions in serving society.  To commemorate the founder and encourage students and teachers to inherit his spirit of dedication, Ming Chi University of Technology has held a volunteer day in memory of the founder's passing since 2009. The event has taken various forms over the years, including mountain cleaning, participation in resource recycling and nursing home care, and in recent years, expanding the influence and appeal of the event by participating as a co-organizer in Yung-Ching Wang Run sponsored by Chang Gung Medical Foundation to assist in the run and volunteer service activities. The faculty, staff, and students of Ming Chi University of Technology are committed to achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG3 "Good Health and Well-being" through voluntary service to participate in runs or public welfare activities, highlighting the founder's concept of caring for the vulnerable and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, 2022 Yung-Ching Wang Run was held on October 30th this year with great enthusiasm. As usual, the volunteer registration for this event was very active, with about 120 faculty, staff, and students serving as volunteers to assist the road race participants. To complete all preparations before the run, volunteers gathered at the Presidential Palace Square before 3 a.m. on the day of the event. With the assistance and guidance of Chang Gung partners, they successively completed preparations such as loading and unloading materials and rehearsing for the event. To welcome enthusiastic participants and VIPs, Ming Chi University's volunteer partners joined hands and lined up in a human chain, assisting in welcoming guests and maintaining order at the forefront of the stage. This demonstrated that all Ming Chi University partners and volunteers have combined their selfless efforts with a common goal, and their power is infinite.

Despite the rainy weather on the day of the event, the volunteers did not rest and worked in groups to provide mineral water, towels, lunch boxes, and other materials to the athletes and guests participating in the public welfare activities, allowing all participants to replenish their energy after the run and feel the enthusiasm of the volunteers. To thank the faculty, staff, and students of Ming Chi University of Technology for their long-term support of this commemorative activity that promotes health and remembrance, Chang Gung Medical Foundation presented a certificate of appreciation after the event, thanking every Ming Chi volunteer for their selfless dedication and assistance.

Mr. Yung-Ching Wang, the founder of Formosa Plastics, often urged the students and teachers of Ming Chi University, Chang Gung University, and Chang Gung University of Science and Technology to give back to society with the philosophy of "taking from society, using for society." His image of long-distance running and physical fitness to demonstrate perseverance is still vivid today. Ming Chi University stated that the significance of holding a volunteer day event is symbolic, especially when run volunteers can continue to hold events after the pandemic, it is truly valuable. Upholding the founder's philosophy and encouraging all faculty and students to participate in public welfare and care for vulnerable groups is a practical manifestation of social responsibility and allows society to have a stronger positive energy during the pandemic.
