Admissions Event: Guardian Earth Engineers – Environmental Safety and Health Experience Camp
To enhance high school students' understanding of the Department of Environmental Safety, Health, and Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology, the department hosted the "Guardian Earth Engineers: Environmental Safety Fun Experience Camp" on May 16, 2026. The event attracted high school and vocational high school students, providing them with an opportunity to explore environmental and safety engineering through hands-on experiments, environmental engineering activities, and interactions with faculty members and student volunteers.
The camp began with registration and ice-breaking activities designed to encourage interaction among participants and create a welcoming learning environment. Faculty members and student ambassadors then introduced the department's features, curriculum, research areas, and career opportunities. Through these sessions, students gained a deeper understanding of environmental protection, occupational safety and health, and sustainable technologies.
A series of hands-on activities formed the highlight of the camp. In the morning, participants created diatomite coasters and weather bottles, learning fundamental concepts of materials science through mixing materials, designing shapes, and conducting practical operations. In the afternoon, students participated in an activated carbon adsorption experiment, where they explored the principles of adsorption and its applications in environmental engineering. By observing and analyzing experimental results, students were able to connect scientific theories with real-world environmental solutions while strengthening their problem-solving and analytical skills.
In addition to the laboratory activities, the camp included a creative coaster-painting session and a faculty-student discussion forum. These activities allowed participants to share their learning experiences and gain further insight into university life and the unique features of the department. Many students commented that the hands-on experiments and interactions with faculty members helped them appreciate both the excitement of scientific discovery and the close relationship between environmental issues and everyday life. According to the post-event survey, the camp achieved an overall satisfaction rate of 100%. More than half of the participants reported that the experience significantly increased their interest in the Department of Environmental Safety, Health, and Engineering and strengthened their intention to pursue related studies in the future. Many also expressed their willingness to participate in similar activities again and recommend them to their peers.
