Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT) continues to deepen its collaboration with industry, enhancing talent development with a focus on integrating theory and practice while fostering lifelong learning abilities. Recently, MCUT partnered with the Technical Training Center of Formosa Plastics Group (FPG) to launch the “AI Engineer Technical Training Program.” This initiative aims to build an elite team to drive talent training, using applied research to improve the digital transformation effectiveness of businesses.
In this era of digital transformation, MCUT actively collaborates with industry to establish a bridge between academia and the industrial sector. The elite team for the AI Engineer Technical Training consists of experts from MCUT’s Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, AI specialists from its three Colleges, and professional teachers in big data analysis. They will guide participants through specialized topics and practical skills in AI, helping FPG achieve its digital transformation goals more efficiently.
FPG has been dedicated to applying AI in business operations since 2017, significantly improving performance. The collaboration between MCUT and FPG has resulted in over 90 projects, with cumulative funding exceeding NT$137 million. This new AI engineer training program aims to further enhance FPG’s big data analysis capabilities and operational efficiency.
Dr. Thu-Hua Liu, President of MCUT, expressed his gratitude to FPG for the opportunity to participate in the training. He emphasized that this collaboration would enable the sharing of accumulated AI-industry experience and expertise with FPG’s AI engineers. Through practical, dual-teacher project guidance, they aim to address real-world AI challenges in the engineering field.
Ye Guoliang, Director of the FPG Technical Training Center, emphasized the importance of aligning talent development with the Group’s future goals by providing industry-relevant learning resources. This program, co-organized by MCUT and Chang Gung University, will focus on AI knowledge in specific fields required by FPG, including generative AI. He highlighted that AI engineers should be proficient in using generative AI tools like ChatGPT for natural language processing, analyzing business big data, and providing preliminary solutions. This capability will drive the Group’s evolution toward refined and high-value industries, ensuring continuous transformation success.
In recent years, MCUT has actively involved in training FPG managers, with over 4,000 individuals trained and cumulative funding exceeding NT$30 million. The “AI Engineer Technical Training Program” aims to enhance the AI knowledge, practical skills, and application abilities of on-site engineers at FPG. This program will further optimize the Group’s digital capabilities, improve operational efficiency, strengthen competitive advantage, and ensure sustainable development.
