Professor Yu-Kuang Chang from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ming Chi University of Technology has accomplished great achievements in the field of biotechnology and biochemical engineering for years. Recently, he was awarded the “2021 Taiwan Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering Award” from the Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering Society of Taiwan. This award is the highest academic honor in this field.

Professor Chang’s research fields include design and application of bioreactor, development and application of protein purification technology and antibacterial nanofiber membranes, and application of nanofibers in the field of environmental biotechnology. A number of his research results have been patented. As many as 39 papers of his have been published in international journals in the past three years, many of which have been published in top international journals such as Chemical Engineering Journal, Carbohydrate Polymers, and Food Chemistry. The amount of his research is quite abundant.

In terms of talent cultivation, Professor Chang has guided students to participate in important domestic chemical and materials competitions for many times. This year, the team under his guidance won the first place in the Chemical Industry and Materials Group of the National Technical College Student Practical Project Production Competition. In terms of professional advancement, Professor Chang has recently participated in the Formosa Plastics Enterprise Applied Engineering Technology Seminar and won the first place in the R&D Creative Practice Competition twice, and he also won the first and second prizes at the seventh and eighth National Textile Technology Paper Contests.

Professor Chang said that his achievement can be attributed to the long-term support for academic research by Ming Chi and to the efforts and time spent by the research team for years. His dedication to academic research and industrial development related to biotechnology and biochemical engineering has been affirmed by the Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering Society of Taiwan, and his consistent academic excellence has also made considerable contributions to Taiwanese society.
