Title: Professor Kai-Chu Li from the Department of Industrial Design instructed Nai-Xuan Che and Ya-Yun Huang to participate in the “2019 LITE-ON Innovation Award” and won the Gold Award. Five awards were gained in total including the Gold Award and the Special Award!

The 2019 LITE-ON Innovation Award is looking for great ideas related to optoelectronic, eco-friendly and intelligent technologies. This year, LITE-ON invites heavy-weight international corporations, Merck and Infineon, to set up Special Awards not only to solicit innovative "digital medical" applications related to biochips, biosensors and biosensor interfaces, but also to look for smart city innovations in the areas of Smart IoT, Smart Transportation and Smart Energy to create "Future Mobility".

The LITE-ON Innovation Award sets two competitive categories, "Design Innovation" and "Technology Innovation," providing a platform to shine for creative minds specializing in either design or technology with their team. Both the "Design Innovation" and "Technology Innovation" categories will award the top 3 teams with gold, silver and bronze prizes respectively. To encourage innovators to brainstorm ideas that bridge the fields of design and technology, entrants will be allowed to enter both categories as long as its concept is in accordance with the selection standards. The dual-category winner can take home a grand prize up to NT$800,000.

The LITE-ON Award is open to participants of all fields and ages, including students, young designers, and anyone interested in using creative and innovative designs to advance the cause of environmental sustainability. The two categories for the LITE-ON Award are open to innovative applications in the following fields: power systems, storage devices, core mechanics, networking devices, optoelectronics, automobile electronics, cloud computing, smart manufacturing, sensors and smart healthcare.

“RESEW'S Fabric Sustainable Banking” created by the team of the Department of Industrial Design was awarded with the gold prize in the category of Design Innovation. This system allows irregular waste fabrics to be effectively classified and utilized via AI image analysis. Combined with the automated storage system and big data application, customers can purchase and sell waste fabrics easily and quickly; thus, waste fabrics can be reused effectively to implement the concept of sustainability.

"Future Mobility Moving the Future" is the theme of Infineon this year. It is expected that participants will actively participate in the design of smart life applications with innovative opportunities for the future smart city. “CR, the Mobile City Blueprint” won the Infineon Distinguished Award. The home itself is a car that can be combined with other buildings to give people a high degree of freedom and flexibility in their movement. In addition to CR, other teams also received the LITE-ON Special Award for "Smart Toilet"; while "Rip Current Alarm" and "Worker Space" won the LITE-ON Potential Award in the category of Design Innovation. The teams of the Department of Industrial Design have won awards in the LITE-ON Innovation Award for two consecutive years with excellent results.
